Broadway Inbound & The Broadway Collection

New York, NY- May 8, 2017- The freshman class of The Broadway Collection has collectively received 44 nominations in advance of the June 11 American Theatre Wing’s 71st Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® ceremony, to be held at the iconic Radio City Music Hall. The nods are due to both the innovative nature of the new productions and impressive quality of the historic revivals. Presented in cooperation with the Broadway League, The Tony Awards® are the most prestigious accolades in American theater. Members of The Broadway Collection are projected to sweep the awards, with potential wins including: Best New Musical, Best Revival of a Musical, Best Leading Actor in a Musical, Best Leading Actress in a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction and more. With numerous nominations for The Broadway Collection, travelers are encouraged to book in advance through a preferred travel provider.

Hello Dolly! starring Bette Midler has been nominated for a total of 10 Tony Awards, including the highly coveted Best Revival of a Musical award. Members of the cast are nominated in every possible performance category: Best Performance by both an Actress and Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical and Best Performance by both an Actress and Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. On the creative side, those behind the magic of the musical have been nominated for Best Direction, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design and Best Lighting Design.

The results of the efforts of these talented individuals are unprecedented, both in front of and behind the curtain. Availability is extremely limited and travelers should approach their travel provider far in advance to secure seats to this historic engagement. On May 3, the show announced it “had the best week in the history of the entire Shubert Organization, grossing $2,105,473 over seven performances.”

The Shubert Organization, which is behind the internationally recognized The Broadway Collection, is America's oldest professional theater company and owns the most Broadway theaters. Member musical The Great Comet is the most nominated of all current Broadway productions and seems likely to win the award for best Scenic Design. The Great Comet is now playing in Broadway’s Imperial Theatre, which has been transformed to look and feel like a 19th century nightclub in Moscow. Internationally acclaimed recording artist Josh Groban stars in the musical in his Broadway debut. With 12 nominations, the show is certain to be a hot ticket in the coming months.

Another front-runner in the 2017 Tony Awards will be Dear Evan Hansen, with nine total nominations, including one for Best Musical. Ben Platt is a favorite for Best Leading Actor in a Musical; international film lovers know Platt for his role in Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect II. Movie buffs around the globe may also recognize Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, who earned Dear Evan Hansen a Best Score nomination, after their Oscar win for Best Song in La La Land. Well-suited to multigenerational travelers, families are encouraged to secure tickets prior to award announcements, after which availability will likely grow more limited.

Additional nods:

Along with the front-runners, the following Broadway Collection members have been acknowledged: Anastasia is nominated for Best Costume Design and Best Featured Actress in a Musical, while Groundhog Day is up for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score, thanks to beloved Australian musician and lyricist, Tim Minchin. Miss Saigon is up for the title of Best Revival of a Musical, and Eva Noblezada, who plays main character Kim, is in the running for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. Holiday Inn, by Roundabout Theatre Company, picked up a nomination for Best Choreography, thanks to Denis Jones. Though Holiday Inn is no longer on Broadway, Roundabout Theater Company productions are all included in The Broadway Collection’s offerings.
