Ottawa, ON; May 2, 2017 – Adventure travel specialist Great Canadian Trails announces the upcoming release of the web documentary series, 'Surviving the Fundy Footpath'. Currently playing in short-film format at festivals around the world, the hilarious and inspiring documentary will air online in six parts beginning May 8, 2017 and can be found via YouTube.
“We're thrilled to have helped this documentary make it to the big screen at major film festivals, including the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival,” said Nathalie Gauthier, Manager of Great Canadian Trails. “Not only is it an entertaining glimpse into the Canadian wilderness but also, it proves that hiking the Fundy Footpath is rewarding no matter how much experience you have.”
Featuring city-slicker Bruce Persaud, 'Surviving the Fundy Footpath' follows the first-time hiker as he attempts to complete one of Canada's toughest multi-day hikes; the Fundy Footpath. Accompanied by a team of veteran guides, he climbs in and out of steep ravines, traverses the stunning Bay of Fundy mega tidal zones, and navigates through dense old-growth Acadian fog forest. The official trailer is available online.
The Footpath, designated as part of the countrywide Trans Canada Trail, traverses 40 miles of the Fundy Escarpment between St. Martins and Alma, New Brunswick. Described as one of Canada's best experiences, its 19 ravines total roughly 13,000 feet in elevation and can be compared to climbing to the peak of Mt. Washington, twice, back to back. In addition to scaling the mossy ground and staring from towering cliffs, hikers can relax on the barrier breach or explore the sculpted sea floor during low tide.
“The footpath is one of the most unique hikes in the world,” said Ben Phillips, Environmental Scientist and part of Bruce's support team. “It's not only on the coast but it's in the area of the highest tides in the world.”
Made all the more impressive during autumn, Great Canadian Trails offers a unique, fully-supported itinerary to intimately experience the colours, the changing-tides and the local stories on one of the last remaining stretches of wilderness on the continent's east coast. The Fundy Footpath Fall Colours spans eight days, departs 27 September, and features fireside gourmet meals of coastal delicacies.
