With an increased interest in walking holidays over the past year, tour operator Corsican Places has expanded its walking holidays collection to now include a seven-night tour of the villages of la Balagne.

With 30 years' experience in arranging package and tailormade holidays to Corsica, the operator aims to provide customers with the opportunity to combine the island's beautiful beaches, laid-back villages and buzzing local life with the added pleasure of walking. The tour itself is centred around the north-west corner of Corsica, encompassing Calvi, L'Ile Rousse, and smaller, hillside villages in la Balagne.

The villages within this tour have been chosen as they demonstrate an authentic way of life, where guests can explore little cobbled streets, churches and traditional eateries, all whilst enjoying some stunning panoramas. Plus, as part of the tour, guests can follow the craft trail "Strada di l'Artigiani", sampling local specialities en route.

Breakdown of itinerary:

Day 1 – Flight from Stansted or Manchester into Calvi and transfer to L'Ile Rousse. Free time and overnight in l'Ile Rousse.

Day 2 – Train to Algajola. Walk from Algajola to Aregno village, Sant'Antonino, Pigna, Corbara and back to L'Ile Rousse for the night.

Day 3 – Walk from L'Ile Rousse to Santa Reperata and Monticello. Plus, circular walk around Monticello or Regino valley. Overnight in Monticello.

Day 4 – Walk across the Regino plain to Speluncato, Nessa and Feliceto. Overnight in Feliceto (Hotel Mare e Monti).

Day 5 – Circular walks through the villages of Zilia, Montegrosso, Cassano and Lunghinano. Back in Feliceto for overnight.

Day 6 – Walk from Feliceto to Lumio via Corbara and Occi villages. Overnight in Calvi.

Day 7 – Optional circular walks from Calvi including Capu di Veta and Notre Dame de la Serra. Overnight in Calvi.

Day 8 – Transfer to Calvi airport and flight back to the UK.

The tour will be priced from £1049pp (May departure), and includes bed & breakfast at each hotel with the exception of day three, which is half board. Flights, airport transfers and luggage transfers are also included. All hotels included with be of 3 or 4* standard.
