Truro's only four-star hotel, The Alverton, has unveiled a collection of 15 new individually designed luxury bedrooms and suites. The multi award-winning hotel, which is located in Cornwall's only city, opened The Courtyard in June.
The Alverton is steeped in history, and its grade II listed status means new modern and luxurious touches are carefully woven with the hotel's rich past. The building housed a convent from 1883 up until 1985 when it became too big for the nuns; The Courtyard was left unused when the convent closed.
In its own separate building, The Courtyard stands proud. Whichever way guests turn there's a story to tell, a piece of history to uncover or an original feature to notice. Retaining the historical features and character that make the structure so unique was one of the most exciting parts of bringing The Courtyard back to life.
The attention to detail throughout the building is purposeful and subtle all at once; the added touches have been carried through every stage of the careful restoration project. Each granite stone in the guests' separate lounge area was carefully removed, cleaned and numbered and then carefully relayed; Original doors have also been repaired, cleaned and returned to their original place.
Guests staying in The Courtyard's chapel suite won't fail to miss the stained glass window at the heart of the former place of prayer. In the lounge area, the original granite floor co-exists with warm luxurious fabrics.
As well as housing the nuns and the horses in the stable block, in its former life The Courtyard also hosted the original washrooms; original drying racks from the late 18th century have also been retained.
In every new room in The Courtyard guests will find monsoon showers with White Company toiletries, a DAB radio, mini-fridge and coffee maker. Designer and bespoke soft-furnishings and fabrics, - including Ralph Lauren - original archways and exposed brick work comes as standard. In the suites sumptuous freestanding roll-top baths feature as well as double walk-in showers - there's a chance to relax at any opportunity.
