40th Anniversary of the Musical Encounters at the Evian Resort

Evian Resort

The Rencontres Musicales d'Evian (Evian Musical Encounters) will take place in Evian from 2 to 10 July 2016 at the Grange au Lac (Evian Resort). With the Modigliani Quartet as artistic directors for the third year in a row, the festival combines its prestigious heritage with the limitless boldness of youth, with a constant goal of creating personal and musical encounters.

From Saint-Saëns to Boulez, French music will be the common theme for the 2016 festival. A reminder of Evian's golden era at the turn of the 19th to 20th century, whilst also highlighting the artistic and cultural approach on which chamber music is founded.

The Modigliani Quartet is committed to making each concert an encounter. -They will open the festival alongside Augustin Dumay, Daniel Müller-Schott and Louis Lortie with a performance that brings together different generations and formations. The Evian Quartet will unite chamber musicians from the former quartets of Tokyo, Vermeer, Mendelssohn and Ysaÿe for an exceptional performance. The great Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos, as well as young talents (Beatrice Rana, Alexandra Conunova, Bruno Philippe, David Kadouch) will perform on stage at the Grange au Lac and Casino Theatre. Koreans Sung-Wong Yang, Dami Kim and Dong Hyek Lim will intertwine their notes with those of Adrien LaMarca for a concert as part of the France-Korea year.

New this year, music from Renaud Capuçon and the Pays de Savoie Orchestra has a date with choreographic creations by Saburo Teshigawara. This initiative by the Modigliani Quartet shows their desire to break down the barriers between the arts.

There is so much in store to celebrate 40 years of a festival packed with cultural and artistic diversity at the heart of the Evian Resort.
