Los Angeles, California (April 21, 2016) – Taiwan Tourism Bureau announces a series of spring-themed events for travelers who want to experience natural beauty in Taiwan.

The “Purple Butterfly Valley” is an annual viewing event that takes place in March. Every year from December to March, millions of migrating Euploea butterflies cross the ocean to winter in the Dawushan Foothills of Taiwan's Maolin National Scenic Area. Each spring, millions of butterflies emerge and fill the area with their distinctive purple color, giving the valley its name, “Purple Butterfly Valley”. As one of the only two winter migratory butterfly gorges in the world, this region attracts travelers from every corner of the world to experience this spectacular ecological phenomenon.

In addition to butterfly viewing, Taiwan celebrates spring with flower festivals all over the country. In Northern Taiwan, the Yangmingshan Flower Festival is a favorite event showcasing spring flowers such as cherry blossoms, azaleas, camellia and wild peonies. Among the star attractions are pure-white calla lilies that visitors can harvest themselves.

In Central Taiwan, the Alishan Cherry Blossom Festival is a must-see spectacle. Travelers can hike and drive throughout Alishan to spot thousands of pink and white cherry blossoms appearing all over the mountainous area.

Another notable flower-viewing festival is the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival. Famed for their pristine pearl-white petals and red filaments with yellow anthers, Tung trees are a meaningful symbol of Taiwan's Hakka culture. At the height of the season, these flowers bloom on roadsides and hills, carpeting the area with their snow-white blossoms.
