What: Jules Rimet Trophy Hunt on The Royal Garden Hotel's website
When: Monday 21st to Sunday 27th March 2016
Where: Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington
Football fans may remember the story of a dog called Pickles, who saved the day back in 1966 when he found the solid gold Jules Rimet Trophy, which was stolen from Methodist Central Hall in Westminster.
With the World Cup tournament looming four months away, it was feared the 13-inch Jules Rimet Trophy would never be seen again and the world's most famous sporting event would take place with no trophy.
However, Pickles and his owner Dave Corbett, then a 26-year old bargeman from, south London saved the day. Taking a walk one week after the trophy vanished in March '66, the inquisitive dog spotted a brown paper package lying near a hedge in the garden, only to discover it was the real Jules Rimet Trophy. Pickles became an overnight sensation.
As this year marks 50 years since England won the World Cup, as well as The Royal Garden Hotel's 50th anniversary, the hotel will be kicking off a treasure hunt with a twist next week in tribute to Pickles the dog and his great detective work. From Monday 21st to Sunday 27th March, visitors to The Royal Garden Hotel website have to find and click on all five of the hidden treasures, and will then be directed to a form to fill in their details for the chance to win a one-night stay in a garden room with a full English breakfast. A winner will be chosen at random by 31st March.
The trophy hunt is just one of many '66 World Cup themed experiences that the hotel has planned to celebrate its golden anniversary. Earlier this year, the hotel launched a Bobby Moore room package perfect for football fans, which includes Wembley stadium tour tickets and a football goodie bag. The hotel will also be launching a seasonal Bobby Moore menu inspired by the former England captain's favourite food in April.
In addition, the hotel's bar will be transformed into the Bobby Moore lounge throughout the month of July, offering themed snacks, live screenings and a number of other football-themed activities for guests to enjoy, as part of the year-long celebrations to raise £50,000 for the Bobby Moore fund.
