EVENTS & SHOWS
Botanic Lights 2015, until 22nd November
This November, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is once again open after dark with a magical outdoor light event. As darkness descends, visitors are invited to follow a trail of light through the Garden. Popular features such as the Victorian Palm House, The Chinese Hillside, Inverleith House and the Pond will be transformed by extraordinary lighting effects.
Light Night, 22nd November, 2-5pm
The festive season officially kicks off with Light Night, when George Street is transformed into a thriving hub of live community performances, and Britain's Got Talent finalist Susan Boyle will be switching on Edinburgh's Christmas lights for 2015.
Edinburgh's Christmas, 20th November 2015 – 4th January 2016
Edinburgh's Christmas promises to be bigger and better than ever before with no shortage of things to see and do this winter. Enjoy panoramic views of the capital from the top of the Big Wheel, or for the brave, a twirl on the 60-metre-high Star Flyer. Artic explorers can also have a go scaling Santa Land's Wall of Ice or enjoy a ride on the family roller-coaster.
St Andrew's Day, 30th November 2015
With a packed programme of free events, all taking place in St Andrew Square in the very heart of the city, there's no better place to celebrate Scotland's national day. With music from three piece folk-pop group the Banana Sessions, multi-award winning Blazin' Fiddles, and a Scottish country dancing workshop, there's something for everyone.
Virgin Money Street of Light, 30th November – 24 December
A new addition this year, the historic Royal Mile will also be transformed when a huge instillation of 60,000 bulbs illuminates the Virgin Money Street of Light, form the City Chambers to the Tron Kirk. A free light show synchronised to music from Edinburgh choirs will run twice a day.
Circa: Beyond, St Andrew Square, 20th November – 3rd January 2016
Acclaimed international circus company Circa make their Edinburgh's Christmas debut, having wowed at Edinburgh's Fringe with Wunderkammer, Close Up and Beyond. Get in amongst the action in the famous 1920s Spiegeltent with extraordinary circus performers and enter a beautiful and magical world. This intimate, red-curtained realm draws us into a cabaret, a zoo, an asylum... and a stage.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Edinburgh Playhouse, 15th December – 2nd January 2016
Direct from the West End and starring Jason Donovan, the feel-good international hit sensation Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical is coming to Edinburgh. Based on the smash-hit movie, Priscilla is the heart warming, uplifting adventure of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship and end up finding more than they had ever dreamed of.
Edinburgh's Hogmanay, 30 December 2015 – 1st January 2016
The world's biggest New Year festival presents 3-days of spectacular free and ticketed events at the 'Home of Hogmanay'. The famous Street-Party welcomes over 75,000 revellers to bring in the bells beneath the dramatic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle with 'Concert in the Gardens' featuring the king's of British rock and roll Biffy Clyro, returning to their roots to kick off 2016 in style. Live bands and DJs fill the streets with music and the city centre comes alive for the main street party. Four stages feature the best alternative, traditional and party music with something for everyone. This year a brand new stage, extra screens and a larger arena will be added to make it a New Year to remember.

Embark on a journey across Edinburgh's Old Town on the first day of 2016, discovering the artistic delights of Scot:Lands. 11 Lands curated by Scotland's best and brightest await to be discovered on foot around Edinburgh's Old Town. Shopping Centres

Edinburgh's second city centre shopping centre, Princes Mall, has an excellent offering of popular fashion brands, including Superdry and Warehouse, as well as a large food court.The Mall is conveniently located next to Edinburgh Waverley Train Station and close to bus and tram stops.

EDINBURGH FESTIVE FACTS
- Edinburgh's Christmas and Edinburgh Hogmanay festivals run for 46 days across the city centre.
- Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay celebrations welcomed almost one million unique visitors to the city during the six week festive period.
- The Christmas Tree on the Mound, a gift to the City of Edinburgh Council from the Hordaland County Council in Norway, will be lit as part of the Light Night switch-on and musicians from the group Brass Trio Vibrazzo from Hordaland in Norway will lead George Street in celebration and song.
