As if serving up three world-class courses wasn't enough, Portugal's world-famous Quinta do Lago is offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy a cosmopolitan atmosphere and food on a par with the world's leading international steak houses in centres such as New York City and Hong Kong.

Combining the best in modern steakhouse concept with contemporary urban design, from renowned international designer Lázaro Roza-Violán, the new Bovino Steakhouse is the latest addition to the resort's already thriving gastro scene.

The chic interiors provide an interesting juxtaposition to the traditional setting – a traditional 200-year-old Algarve farmhouse draped in bougainvillea and enjoying a romantic hilltop setting overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

This contemporary space is home to both the Bovino Steakhouse and the neighbouring Casa Velha restaurant, in addition to a pool, lounge and bar with stunning views over the lake. Making the most of the typical architecture, the new design by Roza-Violán is inspired by the use of traditional materials such as coloured tiles and Portuguese 'calçada' flooring, combined with a contemporary urban approach reflective of styles found in New York's Manhattan and London's Shoreditch.

Fine quality meat is at the heart of Bovino's philosophy the restaurant serves up tender steaks in a stunning environment to create the most exclusive steakhouse experience anywhere in the Algarve. The meat producers, which supply more than 100 Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Europe, practice a unique method known as 'ultra-tender', to deliver a unique consistency in the tenderness of the beef. It is then dry-aged to enhance flavour and taste.

Bovino is also introducing special menus for golfers and golf groups.

The latest addition to the gastronomic offering at Quinta do Lago not only marks the continued success of the resort – deemed a benchmark residential development for more than 40 years – but also continues to cement Portugal as a European culinary hotspot.

• Quinta do Lago South Course – A favourite among European Tour professionals, the South Course calls for accurate drives and precise shots, but rewards players for their efforts with the stunning backdrop of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Regularly included in Golf World magazine's 'Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe', the par-72 layout has hosted the Portuguese Open on no fewer than eight occasions while it was named 'Best Course in Portugal' at the 2014 World Golf Awards.

• Laranjal – Designed in the grounds of an orange grove, the par-72 course was named as Portugal's Best Golf Course 2011 at the Portuguese Travel Awards, and poses serious tests for players of all abilities.
