South Australian outback gem labelled 'greatest unknown icon'
The Rock no longer cheesy but 'sexy'
A South Australian outback tourism destination is Australia's 'greatest unknown icon' while the Rock is now sexy according to Australia's best-selling travel magazine, Australian Traveller.
In its annual Outback Special, SA's Wilpena Pound is glorified for its relative anonymity amongst Australians.
“Come face-to-face with this primeval Colosseum writ large and you will instantly become its disciple and want to spread the word,” says the magazine's Steve Madgwick.
Meanwhile one of the greatest Australian tourism icons has got its mojo back.
Australian Traveller editor Georgia Rickard uses her article to describe Uluru as “nothing like the cheesy popularisations of Australia's Yahoo Serious phase. It's glamorous. Vaguely dangerous. Magnificently Sexy.”
“Uluru is on the way back from slightly faded and irrelevant glory to its rightful place as a cornerstone of great and important Australian experiences,“ Rickard says. “The new ownership has reinvigorated the experience for the 21st century with a more suitable set of immersive guest experiences.”
