Philip Thomas
Freelance Travel Journalist
BBC Travel, Travel & Leisure, The Independent, Conde Nast Traveler

I'm Phil and I'm a travel writer, photographer and content creator from Cambridge, UK. Travel is both my profession and my passion and I tell stories from the people and places I have visited across over 115 countries and half of the 50 US states.

My writing and photography has been published in BBC Travel, The Independent, Travel & Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler amongst others. I specialise in showcasing destinations through lesser known attractions and local voices which capture the joy and essence of a place so readers feel compelled to visit for themselves. I specialise in culture/heritage, outdoors and LGBTQ+ travel.

I have recently won awards for Best Travel Feature for the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association and Travel Journalist of the Year for Darkus Magazine, as well as being a finalist for Best Consumer Feature at the Inspire Global Media Awards.

My own blog is called Someone Else's Country, which is aimed at busy professionals who are low on time but high on wanderlust. Popular series include 'Second Time In…' (returning to a familiar city, including NYC and Vegas) and 'Go Where Others Don't' (lesser known destinations). Alongside journalism, I also create branded content – from SEO-optimised curated travelogues to social media collaborations – for destinations and attractions looking to reach a global audience of independent travellers.

I'm excited to attend IPW for the first time and am looking to build connections with brands and DMOs to gain insights on new openings, themes and angles as the basis for future stories in UK and international publications.
