Already world-famous for its historic landmarks, political landscape and world-class museums, the city’s new website brings its “hidden gems” to life – allowing travellers to experience an authentic mix of local life and entertainment on their trip to the Capital Region through photography and video, interviews, “insider” intel, and most uniquely – through the lives and stories of some of the city’s most prominent residents.
Learn about the capital’s culinary scene, including Georgetown’s sweet delicacies through an interview with the entrepreneurial “Cupcake Sisters” and reality TV stars, who gave up their day jobs to set up a thriving cupcake shop. Founder of one of DC’s culinary landmarks, Virginia Ali of Ben’s Chili Bowl also dishes the low down via video on the culinary highlights of U Street and how it has evolved over recent years.
Other interviewees include Jamie Leeds, founder of Hank’s Oyster Bar, as he discusses tips for getting the best out of the Chesapeake Bay’s delicious oysters, commonly served in Dupont Circle, Old Town Alexandria and Capitol Hill. Local recording artist, Alison Carney, discusses music hot spots and legends associated with the capital, and vintage clothing entrepreneur, Jessica Gressa showcases the best of DC’s shopping and fashion scene.
The website also provides a rundown of capital’s latest and up-and-coming in the worlds of art, dining, hotels, nightlife, shopping and sport such as the recent “Anchorman” exhibit at the Newseum, the “Van Gogh” exhibit at the Phillips Collection, and the upcoming “America Cool” exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery. Travellers can engage with the campaign on social media via Twitter (@itsdccool, #dccool), Facebook (facebook.com/itsdccool) and Instagram (instagram.com/itsdccool).
