Thousands Jump With Joy On World's Biggest Beds

IHG Kick-Starts Four Mega-City Series of Largest Bed Jumps in Shanghai

Shanghai, 7 May 2009 - To mark the launch of IHG's (InterContinental Hotels Group) 'Biggest Free Nights' offer, 20,000 people are expected to take part today in the biggest bed-jump in history - bouncing on four of the world's biggest beds in Shanghai, Paris, London and New York. Thousands of people will jump on these giant beds for a total of over 16 hours, celebrating the five million free rooms up for grabs and aiming for the record for the world's biggest bed-jump.

A team of 100 people worked for five weeks to build the world record breaking 15 by 10 metres (50 by 33 foot) beds, topping them with 30 double mattresses and a huge supersized duvet that could cover 65 regular double-beds. Construction involved:

� Six tons of steel � 1,000 kilograms of wood � And more than 200,000 nuts and bolts

World class gymnasts will start each bed-jump as they take place, on the same day, across the globe from the east to the west:

Century Square, Shanghai, China: Jiang Yi Qi, the 2008 Trampoline World Cup, women's synchronised champion will perform La Place de la Defense, Paris, France: Marina Ducroux, the 2007 French women's trampoline champion and David Martin, four times French trampoline champion will be jumping Covent Garden, London, UK: Jamie Moore and James Higgins from London 2012's Team Great Britain will perform Bryant Park, New York, USA: Shawn Johnson, 2008 Olympic women's balance beam gold medallist and individual all-round silver medallist will be jumping
