The Adelphi Hotel Just Got Sweeter

The Adelphi

The much-celebrated Adelphi is set to reclaim her crown as the Queen of Melbourne’s boutique hotel scene with its recent acquisition by Iconic Hotels Group.

The purchase heralds the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the hotel, with an ambitious brief to create an indulgent sensory experience for every guest from the moment they arrive until well after they have departed.

Originally constructed in 1938 as a warehouse for the rag trade, it was simple and elegant in design until its transformation in 1993 by architects Denton Corker Marshall, who converted it into a minimalist 34-room boutique hotel complete with a private rooftop club, restaurant and infamous ‘suspended’ pool.

And as the Adelphi prepares to celebrate its 21st birthday in 2014, it will be transformed yet again into a magical, modern and uniquely memorable boutique experience.

The design genius behind the concept and its future transformation is Hachem Director Fady Hachem who believes this will be a showcase project for Melbourne.

“This is an incredibly unique opportunity with the challenge to maintain the best of the original design while creating something really innovative and ground breaking,’’ Mr Hachem said.

“Our tagline ‘Engage your senses’ is a significant part of the re-design process – from the textures to the visuals, the sounds, the smells and tastes, our guests will be immersed in a range of senses, which will stimulate their positive energies.”

From decadent-looking carpets, dessert-inspired art and luxuriously rich furnishings, to sweet fragrances and indulgent sounds, the Adelphi makeover will be truly delicious.

The new-look Adelphi will feature 34 rooms ranging from the 90sqm Palatial Suite complete with a main bedroom, lounge area and additional powder room overlooking Flinders Lane, to the spacious 48sqm Plush King Rooms and lead-in 38sqm Comfy King and Twin rooms.

As part of its no-fuss ‘all-inclusive’ pricing, complimentary in-room snacks and refreshments, welcome drink at the bar, Wi-Fi and local phone calls are included in all room rates.

At the heart of the hotel will be the signature Om Nom Dessert Restaurant and Bar, which is set to become Melbourne’s hottest new destination.

Head Chef Christy Tania, will tempt and tease diners with delicious sweet creations as well as a multitude of mouth-watering savoury options to please the fussiest of palates.

The iconic glass-bottomed lap pool and deck area will continue to be enjoyed in its current form and will be available for Summer 2013. The renovations will take place in winter 2014 when this unique space will be revealed as the icing on the cake.

Dion Chandler, Managing Director of Iconic Hotels Group believes the Adelphi’s rejuvenation will yet again capture the imaginations and hearts of all who visit.

“Our mission is simple,’’ Mr Chandler says."We will enhance the magic the Adelphi once personified by creating a truly memorable experience for our guests, highlighted by contemporary twists and hidden surprises".
