Singapore Airlines' first aircraft offering AeroMobile's inflight mobile connectivity service took its inaugural flight from Singapore to London on Friday 27 September 2013.
Through AeroMobile's inflight roaming service, SIA customers will be able to use their own mobile phones to text and browse the internet at 30,000 feet.
Travellers using any of the UK's major mobile phone networks will be able to access the service. The same applies to subscribers of Singapore's three main mobile operators; M1, SingTel and StarHub. In addition, AeroMobile has roaming agreements with more than 220 mobile service providers worldwide.
Using your mobile phone inflight is just like roaming abroad as customers simply need to turn on their mobile devices to connect to the AeroMobile network. Users will be billed by their own mobile operators and prices are typically similar to 'rest of world' terrestrial roaming rates, or lower.
"Singapore Airlines is the first Asia-based airline to roll out AeroMobile connectivity, and we're delighted to have them on board. The AeroMobile service is already available on over 160 aircraft across nine airlines, including Emirates, Etihad and Virgin Atlantic," said Kevin Rogers, CEO of AeroMobile.
"Over the last six months we've seen a surge in demand for inflight mobile services, as more and more customers realise they can stay connected at 30,000 feet. Texting is proving to be by far the most popular service, but travellers are also keen to share their experiences through social media and keep on top of emails," continued Rogers.
