· Choosing holiday rentals instead of hotels reaps big rewards in 15 key European cities according to research conducted by HouseTrip.com
· Paris, Istanbul and Nice are the cities where travellers can save most if they switch to private rentals
Holidaymakers could save up to 60% off the nightly cost of their accommodation in Europe by booking a holiday rental as opposed to a hotel, says HouseTrip.com - one of the world’s largest holiday rental websites. According to booking data compiled by HouseTrip, the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in 15 key cities across Europe is up to £65 per night less than an equivalent quality hotel room, with rentals in Paris, Istanbul and Nice offering the biggest price differences. Additionally, guests can save even more by taking advantage of kitchen facilities to cook meals, free WiFi and pull-out sofas to accommodate extra guests.
Paris leads the pack with an average saving of £65/night off the cost of an equivalent quality hotel room with Istanbul (£64) and Nice (£63) close behind. In London, the average saving when booking a holiday rental instead of a hotel is £46/night. Holiday resort destinations (as opposed to city break locations) also showed significant savings with Mallorca offering the biggest savings - £41/night for a rental when compared to £101/night for an equivalent hotel room in Palma.
Spain proved to be the destination with the most significant savings in terms of percentage of cost. In Madrid, the average hotel room goes for £82/night, while the average one-bedroom apartment is just £34 per night – a savings of almost 60%.
Budapest remains the cheapest of the European destinations where the cost of a hotel comes to £64 on average per night, although a holiday rental is still cheaper at just £34 per night.
Arnaud Bertrand, CEO of HouseTrip says: “One of the biggest benefits of holiday rentals is value. Our studies have found that guests can secure 20% more space when booking an apartment for their holiday. Combine this with savings of up to 60% off the cost of a hotel and the benefits speak for themselves. Hotels are no longer the default accommodation choice for travellers. Families – especially – need the extra space and value-for-money that rentals offer. HouseTrip is proud to give holidaymakers the tools they need to book an affordable, authentic and amenity-packed rental, safely and securely, at a price within their budget.”
