Notes to Editors

About The Landmark Trust
· The Landmark Trust has been managing Lundy Island since 1969 on behalf of its owners, the National Trust.
· Lundy lies in the Bristol Channel, about 11 miles off the coast of North Devon. Three miles long and half a mile wide, this granite outcrop rises 400 feet above sea level and is a place of outstanding natural beauty.
· Lundy, a marine conservation zone is one of the most important sites for nature conservation in the UK; it is home to rare species of birds, insects, marine life and plants.
· The island is visited by over 20,000 people each year who come to enjoy its natural beauty, wildlife and history. The income generated from visitors (day visitors and people staying in the holiday cottages) contributes to the ongoing conservation of the island but does not cover everything that needs to be undertaken.
· The Landmark Trust is a building preservation charity that rescues and restores architecturally interesting and historic buildings at risk, giving them a future by letting them for self-catering stays. The rental income pays for the buildings' upkeep but money to save other buildings at risk has to be found elsewhere.
· There are nearly 200 Landmark Trust buildings in Britain and several in Italy and France with 24 buildings on Lundy.
