WINERIES
Lattanzio Wines
Lattanzio Wines has taken over the space in Santa Rosa that was formerly a collective of small wineries, including their own.
Justin and Hillary Lattanzio created their own winery in 2005. They like to find small, cool-climate vineyards and showcase the grapes grown in them. Pinot Noir is one of their favorite varietals, but tasters will also find Chardonnay, Rose, and a white blend called Laura's Cuvee.
The new tasting room opens mid-August and will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the week they are open by appointment.

DRNK Wines
DRNK Wines is a family partnership that includes Dale Dougherty, Ryan Kunde, Nancy Dougherty, and Katie Kunde. Take the initial of each of their first names, and you have DRNK.
Leading the charge as winemaker is Ryan Kunde, a fifth-generation member of the Kunde family, which has a rich history of making excellent wines. This new winery is located in Sebastopol, and visitors with an appointment are welcome.
Ryan Kunde's history of winemaking and hard work is blended with fruit grown in some of the best North Coast vineyards. He then uses the latest winemaking techniques to create elegantly crafted and balanced wines, each expressing a focused sense of place.
The menu at DRNK Wines includes several Pinot Noirs, Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and a Pinto Noir Rosé.
Ryan gets intimately involved in the vineyards using his hands-on knowledge and modern technology. He flies drones over the vineyards to assess the fruit development from a unique prospective.
At harvest, each lot is carefully hand harvested and sorted in the vineyard and again at the winery before crushing. Fermentations are carried out in small batches and punched down by hand. The wines are transferred to barrels in an underground cellar.

BREWERIES
101 North Brewing Company
Opening a brewery was a dream come true for six local friends, some of whom are brothers by blood as well. They all have various responsibilities in the business, but they call themselves “just a bunch of reckless boys who aren't afraid to put the cart before the horse, twist every arm, and break every sweat. Because in these troubled times, creating, and sharing beer with the world just made sense …”
Already, 101 North Brewing Company is receiving accolades for their Heroine India Pale Ale, Naughty Aud, and Golden Naked Ale.
101 North beers are available on tap in more than 50 bars and restaurants around Sonoma County.

Mix a love of beer with a passion for creating, and a couple decades of practice as a home brewer, and you have the Petaluma Hills Brewing Company.
The man with the dream at this small brewery is J.J. Jay, who also calls himself the Chief Kettle Cleaner. Jay was a home brewer for 20 years who decided to up his game and focus on becoming a really good brewer. He has built enough demand for his homebrew that he now has his own commercial brewery.

The Barlow
The Barlow is a unique food, beverage, art campus, and marketplace in Sebastopol. It brings together food producers, wine makers, brewers, distillers, and artists to offer a direct connection between consumers and the makers of local products.
Comprised of repurposed historic warehouses and production facilities blended with new construction, The Barlow sits on 12.5 acres in the heart of West Sonoma County at the junction of Highways 12 and 116.
The Barlow now hosts a weekly street fair on Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. In addition to being able to visit the dozens of businesses that call the Barlow home, attendees will also enjoy local food, artisan vendors, live music and entertainment.
Here is a look at some of the businesses that have recently opened at The Barlow:
Wind Gap Winery
Wind Gap is a small, boutique winery. Owner and winemaker Pax Mahle has already earned a great reputation with his first winery, PAX, which garnered high scores and much notoriety. For his new venture, Mahle chose to name the winery after the forces of nature that shape his cool climate wines.
The geological breaks in the coastal hills funnel winds inland, and strongly influence the growing and ripening of the grapes. In this new tasting room visitors will discover Cabernet, Chardonnay, Syrah and Grenache from South Napa, Paso Robles and the windy Sonoma Coast.
The Wind Gap tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Vignette Pizzeria
This is the first solo project for Chef Mark Hopper. Formerly he worked as executive chef of casual dining for the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group and, most recently, executive chef at Farmshop Marin.
At Vignette, Hopper shares his passion for handcrafted pizza in this intimate indoor/outdoor restaurant. Customers will find a thoughtful selection of Neapolitan-style pizza and seasonal (or market-driven) antipasti with select craft beers and wines.
Ultra Crepes
Ultra Crepes, known locally for food truck catering, will take permanent residence at The Barlow. Ultra Crepes will offer a selection of savory and sweet crepes made-to-order in the traditional fashion. These freshly prepared, affordable, and authentic crepes can be enjoyed as breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks or dessert.
The Nectary
Inspired by the elemental power of plants, herbs, flowers, cultures and microbes, The Nectary juice bar will serve an assortment of 100 percent organic, fresh-pressed juices, super food smoothies, and probiotic beverages.
Enjoy these beverages with acai bowls and other raw food snacks and sweet treats. The Nectary menu is focused on the nourishment of well-balanced drinks and simple foods. It is also guided by the seasons and supported by the abundance of local organic produce available in Sonoma County.
The Passdoor
The Passdoor, will offer a uniquely curated selection of functional products and artworks for the home space, the workspace, and life's special occasions.
The Passdoor owner and curator Jennifer Edwards, spent more than 30 years in the fine home furnishings industry. In her new business, she will offer a selection of modern art and iconic design-inspired home goods from both local and international artisans, such as Stelton and Piet Hein of Denmark.
MacPhail Family Wines
James MacPhail shares his passion for Pinot Noir by focusing on vineyard designated, limited release wines from California's finest growing regions. The roster currently includes the Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley, Green Valley, Anderson Valley, and Santa Rita Hills, along with the Eola-Amity Hills (Oregon).
Small lots of Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast are also produced. Part of a historic family with roots in agriculture in West Marin and along the Sonoma Coast, MacPhail wines are very much a reflection of his deep roots in the North Coast.

Sustainability Festival at Jack London State Historic State Park Sustainable farming practices are widely practiced in Sonoma County and beyond today, but these practices were actually pioneered many years ago by people like Jack London.
On Oct. 5, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Sustainability Festival at Jack London State Historic Park celebrates London's legacy on the land he worked 100 years ago, and connects it to what we do today to preserve the land for tomorrow. The event is free, although there is a $10 per car parking fee. Food and live music will also be available.
When Jack London created his “Beauty Ranch,” (the land that is now Jack London State Historic Park), he dedicated himself to a return to the land and a restoration of sustainable agricultural methods.
London became a pioneer of sustainable farming and ahead of his time when in 1915 he experimented with innovative methods of farming and more humane methods of dealing with farm livestock. Many of his ideas are now standard practices: terracing, green water, mulching, composting, vegetable growing, and providing progressive livestock conditions.
Festival attendees will receive a map to guide them as they explore the “sustainability experience” intersecting through the past, present and future. Stations will be set up throughout Beauty Ranch showcasing the history of London's sustainable farming practices and pairing them with "do it yourself sustainable" practices popular today.
