Since the 1980s, the Big Apple has welcomed many boutique hotels that have made their home around midtown and downtown Manhattan, while only the best have been considered and added to the Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ (SLH) portfolio. In the past two years, SLH has added three hotels bringing the number of New York hotels in the collection to six. All hotels offer a different experience and can be found in different neighbourhoods within the sought after city.
According to Paul Kerr, CEO for Small Luxury Hotels of the World™, “New York has always been on our radar. SLH has had a great presence in cities like London, Paris and Rome, so we were always keen on growing our collection in New York. It is a key city for growth in the Americas, and the USA is our biggest source market - but it was important to find the right hotels. The Quin, Refinery Hotel New York and WestHouse Hotel New York are all new conversions and are wonderful additions to our city collection. They were well worth the wait.”
The Quin (Opened November 11th, 2013) www.slh.com/hotels/the-quin/ - Midtown Manhattan
Situated in a privileged Midtown location where art, music and fashion intersect, New York’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel is a 17-storey pre-War building that was once home to some of the 20th century’s greatest musicians and painters. The 205 rooms and suites are thoughtfully designed to combine timeless luxury and modern convenience with bespoke built-in furnishings, mosaic floors and state-of-the-art audio visuals. The Quin also offers the fine dining Signature Restaurant, a cocktail and wine bar and instinctive “Quintessential” service.
Hotel Chandler www.slh.com/hotels/hotel-chandler/ - Manhattan
Steps from the Empire State building, Hotel Chandler has an enviable postcode, yet offers an atmosphere of chic serenity away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. It boasts a 2-Michelin star boutique restaurant, Juni, home to Chef Shaun Hergatt, serving a seasonally evolving menu. The homely ambiance of each room is specifically designed to reflect the historic building’s timeless style, while its refined library is conducive to both working and relaxing.
WestHouse Hotel New York (Opening December 23rd, 2013) www.slh.com/hotels/westhouse-hotel-new-york/ - Midtown Manhattan
This new luxury boutique hotel designed to evoke a private residence is the newest hotel to join SLH. Conveniently located on 55th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway, WestHouse Hotel New York is close to many New York City landmarks such as Central Park, Broadway and the designer boutiques in 5th Avenue. WestHouse, with its 172 rooms, derives inspiration from the beauty and glamour of the 1920s and invites guests to an elevated boutique hotel experience, delivering personalised privileges in an inviting atmosphere.
The Inn at Irving Place www.slh.com/hotels/the-inn-at-irving-place/ - Gramercy Park
A beautifully restored period townhouse in the heart of Gramercy Park, The Inn at Irving Place joined SLH in 1996. With its unassuming façade, the hotel has a classically timeless interior with a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Period features abound throughout the property including fireplaces, antiques, Tiffany lamps, cherry wood floors and floral rugs, which are reminiscent of the Victorian era. Lady Mendl’s Tea Room is consistently rated the best and most romantic Tea Salon in New York City.
Refinery Hotel New York: (Opened May 2013) www.slh.com/hotels/refinery-hotel-new-york/ - Garment District, Midtown Manhattan
Located in the Garment District in what once operated as a millinery, the thematic design found throughout the hotel pays homage to the building’s storied past and seamlessly blends contemporary touches to create an atmosphere that is always in style. The grand entry with its vaulted ceilings and elongated corridor—ironically reminiscent of a fashion runway—creates a sense of arrival for guests as they pass through the reception area. One-of-a-kind furniture creations evoke the craftsmanship associated with the building from the sewing machine-inspired desks to the coffee tables modelled after factory carts.
The Iroquois New York www.slh.com/hotels/the-iroquois-hotel/ - Manhattan
A few steps from 5th Avenue, The Iroquois New York has been a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ since 1998. Melding classic design with contemporary amenities for a quintessential New York stay, the hotel was built for both business and leisure travellers and features 114 well-appointed guest rooms and nine suites with features such as Comfy Simmons Beautyrest mattresses, comfortable work stations and Jacuzzi tubs. The hotel is home to restaurant Triomphe serving French and Global Cuisine.
