SKYSCANNER UNVEILS BEST VALUE DESTINATIONS FOR 2020¹
Plus insights into fight price trends and emerging destinations
Finding that bargain flight is every traveller's dream and as the peak travel booking period approaches², the travel experts at Skyscanner have crunched their flight price data to uncover some glorious destinations which are offering the best value flight prices heading into 2020. The global travel booking site, which was recently named best travel comparison site by Which!, has also uncovered overall flight price trends, as well as pricing around different class of travel for their 2020 Travel Trends report¹.
Sam Ayles from Skyscanner comments: 'As we head towards January, our busiest month, we wanted to share our flight price data insights to help travellers find their perfect, affordable holiday. And it's good news! Economy flight prices are dropping the most, down 7% year on year¹, but for those wishing to travel in luxury, the average flight price of First Class on Long Haul flights is down 5%¹. When looking back over our data we found a number of cities which are seeing phenomenal price drops, with Bratislava leading the way with a staggering 71% drop in average flight prices, that's a saving of over £1,200¹ for a family of four. In addition to our Best Value Destinations, our data is also showing a number of emerging destinations which have been growing in popularity, the growth of some is likely to be down to new or increased routes of low-cost carriers, now making far flung dream destinations such as Rio De Janeiro an affordable reality.”
Europe is dominating the top ten Best Value destinations, with Bratislava leading the way with a staggering 71% drop in average flight prices - that equates to a saving of over £350 per person¹. However, whilst they didn't make it into the top ten there are also some great long-haul destinations seeing average flight prices dropping by more than 25% YoY¹. For example, Marrakech has seen flight prices decrease by 35% (saving £136 on the average ticket)¹, Denpasar has dropped by 27% (saving £264 on the average ticket) and Buenos Aires is down 26% (saving £232 on the average ticket)¹.

Notes to editors
¹ the data in this release is based on searches and bookings on Skyscanner's website and mobile app, in the UK. The term 'booking' refers to a redirect made on the Skyscanner platform, when a traveller selects a flight with a partner on the Skyscanner booking panel. Emerging destinations are predicted based on their growing popularity between 1 October 2017 and 10 September 2018, and 1 October 2018 and 10 September 2019. Change in popularity is based on normalised data and shows changes in comparative popularity over these two periods. Price change is calculated by how much the average flight price has increased or decreased in 2019 when compared to the average flight price in 2018, unless otherwise stated
