Customer volumes at Scenic Airlines have increased steadily since the beginning of the year and are starting to exceed forecast by as much as 35%. These latest trends suggest better than expected market recovery will continue throughout the summer. Over the past several weeks, daily passenger volumes have grown to well over 1,400 passengers during the busiest days of the week. Two additional aircraft are being added to Scenics fleet of 19 passenger large-window Vistaliner Twin Otter aircraft, the first of which is expected to be on line in mid May.
The challenge of expanding airline capacity and increasing the number of available qualified flight crews is an issue addressed regularly by Scenic Management. Losing pilots to larger carriers also expanding their capacity keeps Scenics Pilot Training department very busy. This year, Scenic is increasing both its number of certified Pilot Trainers as well as qualified flight crews. The additional trainers will help the company qualify more flight crews in time for peak season.
With more than 25 different tour programs, and sixteen different daily departures to scenic destinations including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley and Yosemite National Park, Scenic Airlines continues to grow its variety of tour programs to accommodate the new demand. Working closely with several other Las Vegas and Grand Canyon based tour operators has been an integral component to Scenics growth. Combining sales efforts with other operators has helped to expand the airlines total capacity while adding to its diversity. Several of Scenics combine tour programs now include airplane, helicopter, 4-wheel drive, pontoon boat and white water rafting components.
