Grape Escapes are combining a visit to the most prominent battlefield sites and museums of the First World War with a trip to Reims to raise a glass (or two) of Champagne to our fallen heroes, celebrating the 100th anniversary. This Flexible Champagne and Battlefield Tour will take you from the UK to Arras and Reims, where every history and Champagne lover will experience this perfect combination while staying in two elegant hotels. The four star Hotel de l'Univers in the historic city of Arras is the ideal hotel for the first night and a visit of the memorial park in Vimy ridge, the site of the huge tactical victory of the Canadian Corps on the opening day of the Battle of Arras will be arranged.

On the way to the Champagne region the tour takes you across the former battlefields of the Somme to stop at the famous Thiepval memorial visiting the Museum of the Great War in Peronne to learn more about the First World War.

Once in the Champagne region, Grape Escapes arranges a two night Champagne break which includes a tour and Champagne tastings at a large and prestigious Champagne House in Reims. This is followed by a visit to a smaller family run producer of Premier Cru Champagnes, meeting the Champagne-maker and seeing the fascinating Champagne-making process from vine to bottle. The day is completed with a three course Champagne tasting dinner in a traditional restaurant located in the city centre of Reims. Each course is accompanied by a different glass of Champagne - Champagne made from Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. 

After leaving the elegant four star Hotel de la Paix, stop at the Carverne du Dragon for a guided tour. The 16th century stone quarry is 15 metres underground giving visitors a feel for what war was like during the First World War including entry to the on-site museum.
