Orient-Express Hotels Ltd has announced the appointment of three new general managers. Jonathan Orr-Ewing will take over the post of general manager at Le Manoir aux Quat�Saisons in Oxfordshire, UK; Bruno Brunner has been appointed general manager of Reid�s Palace in Madeira; and Laurent Carresset has moved from a similar position at the Hotel Monasterio in Peru to the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort in French Polynesia.
Jonathan Orr-Ewing will join Le Manoir aux Quat�Saisons on 9th February 2004 following the departure of Philip Newman-Hall. He comes to Great Milton from London, where he has been general manager of the 120 room Montcalm � Hotel Nikko for the past 8 years. Prior to this he was general manager of The Goodwood Park Hotel, a 90 room hotel with golf club and course in Chichester.
Orr-Ewing�s prior experience has given him with a unique insight and understanding of the particular skills needed to run personalised hotel with individual style such as Le Manoir. As general manager of the 37 room Pelham Hotel in London from March 1989 to April 1990, he was responsible for opening what was then one of London�s first new generation of small luxury hotels.
He is an active participant in British hospitality associations and education, being deputy chairman of the London Committee of the British Hospitality Association and honorary visiting fellow of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Oxford Brooks University.
Bruno Brunner joins the management team at Reid�s Palace in Madeira on 2nd February 2004, moving from Los Angeles where he was vice president and managing director of the St Regis Hotel. Prior to this, Brunner spent 2 years based in Hong Kong as vice president and general manager of the Shangri-La Hotel. Brunner has spent the majority of his career in the hospitality industry in the United States, having been general manager of the Williamsburg Inn in Virginia, managing director of the Hotel Crescent Court in Dallas and vice president, operations of Rosewood Hotels and Resorts.
Fluent in English, French and German, Brunner completed most of his education in Switzerland at the Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Neuchatel and the School for Hotel Management in Lausanne.
Laurent Carresset was appointed general manager of the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort in French Polynesia in December 2003 and is currently overseeing an extensive renovation project which includes the creation of a new presidential villa and Banyan tree-house spa.
Carresset has worked for Orient-Express Hotels for over 5 years and returns to Tahiti from Cuzco in Peru, where he was general manager of the Hotel Monasterio for three years. Prior to this he was financial controller for Orient-Express Hotels� three properties in Peru � the Hotel Monasterio, the Miraflores Park Plaza and the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.
Born in Lima, Peru, in 1972, Laurent travelled the world with his parents before attending the Ecole Hotelier Jean Drouant de Paris, where he graduated in 1993. He went on to work at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London before joining Orient-Express Hotels in May 1998 as assistant and then financial controller of the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort, where he now returns as general manager.
