New Italian restaurant, 'Uma Cucina', to open at Uma by COMO, Ubud, Bali

Como Hotels & Resorts

Relaxed al fresco dining brings spirit of Italy to the Uma Ubud experience

Uma by COMO, Ubud, the Balinese adventure retreat from COMO Hotels and Resorts, will open a new Italian-inspired restaurant and lounge bar in September this year.

‘Uma Cucina’ is an informal space recalling the restaurants of Italy, where locals and hotel guests can gather for easygoing lunches, afternoon tea, early evening bites, aperitifs and  evening meals on the open-air terrace.

Helmed by Australian-born Executive Chef Nicolas Lazzaroni, ‘Uma Cucina’ will have dishes devised by COMO’s Executive Chef Amanda Gale – best known for her healthful COMO Shambhala Cuisine, served at COMO’s flagship wellness resort, the nearby COMO Shambhala Estate, also in Ubud. The menu is strong on fresh, locally-sourced produce and the flavours of the Italian kitchen. Seasonal vegetables, seafood and slow cooked meats are rendered in colourful,  easygoing options, perfect for sharing with friends. House specialities include handmade pastas, cheeses and sausages, woodfired pizzas and breads, as well as classic Italian gelatos and granitas. Favourite dishes might include grilled sardines with sweet and hot peppers, garganelli with fresh yellow fin tuna and rosemary ragu, or wood roasted suckling pig with fennel confit.

Uma Cucina has been designed by architect Cheong Yew Kuan, who also created COMO Shambhala Estate. The atmosphere is informal and fun, with a large communal dining table at the heart of the space reflecting the homely ‘kitchen’ spirit behind the name (‘cucina’ means kitchen in Italian). Scattered dining tables also spill out onto the open-air terrace and lounge bar.

Uma Cucina is open daily for lunch from 12 noon to 3.30pm and for dinner from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
