Former Pabst Brewing House Transformed to Brewhouse Inn & Suites
While wine enthusiasts have been visiting a destination for the perfect vino for quite some time, as craft and microbreweries become more popular across the country, beer lovers are now joining in on the travel trend. Milwaukee, a city that "beer made famous," is the perfect destination for a "beercation" where now you can even sleep in the former Pabst Brewery at the new Brewhouse Inn & Suites.
Guests are greeted upon entering the historic, cream city brick building by a front desk fashioned from recycled bottles of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Wrought iron railings leading up the stairs are adorned with hand-crafted hops bloom accents. The massive copper kettles that brewed the very first batches of PBR gleam, filling the second-floor lobby and atrium with color. King Gambrinus, the patron saint of beer, watches over them as he lives on eternally in the enormous stained-glass window above.
The 90-room, all-suite hotel features the exposed brick, steel and wood of the original building while seamlessly integrating the comforts of today in each room. You'll find no two layouts the same in the suites with oversized windows displaying beautiful views, full kitchenettes and living areas. For a truly special getaway, visitors can reserve a "Baron Suite" with a private terrace overlooking downtown Milwaukee along with other upgraded amenities.
For an ice cold brew, you'll find onsite Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub, a casual restaurant featuring a mix of Milwaukee favorites and an adjacent outdoor beer garden for enjoying sunny days.
The neighborhood surrounding the Brewhouse Inn & Suites, known as "The Brewery," is a 20-acre complex that has won the highest designation for sustainable development practices from the U.S. Green Building Council - one of only five neighborhoods in the world to be given this title.
While the beer lovers are in town, they can check out the historic and current beer scenes in Milwaukee. Tour of the home of the man who brewed the PBR at the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, catch a show at his opulent, jewel box Pabst Theater, see his original roll-top desk at Best Place or head out to Forest Home Cemetery, where finally laid to rest.
For a sip of today's beer culture, tour Lakefront Brewery, Sprecher Brewery, Milwaukee Brewing Company or the well-known, MillerCoors Brewery. Beer pairing dinners with James Beard-nominated chefs will wow at places like Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub, featuring beers made just north in Green Bay, Wis., or get your fill at a brewpub such as Milwaukee Ale House or Rumpus Room. And a trip to Milwaukee wouldn't be complete without a pub crawl of some of Draft Magazine's "Best Beer Bars in the U.S." at Roman's Pub, Sugar Maple and Palm Tavern.
