Edinburgh New Town Cookery School

This year's Cookery School of the Year winner at the 2017 Food Awards Scotland, Edinburgh New Town Cookery School (ENTCS), has launched its autumn programme of professional and leisure courses.

ENTCS mixes culture with cuisine and offers everything from a one day Thai Cuisine course on a Saturday for enthusiastic home cooks or visitors to Edinburgh looking for something exciting to do, to the Six Month Practical Cookery Diploma which will lead to a career in cookery.

The award-winning school has seen many of its graduates go on to lead exceptional careers in food, from chefs in restaurants, private catering companies, food stylists and writers, to simply earning a living during gap years or university breaks.

Within the Six Month Diploma, the first three months' training results in a Beginners' Certificate, which is also a qualification in itself for those who want a fast track into a professional cookery career – these both begin 18 September.

For the more leisurely cook or for those who just want to hone their skills, ENTCS begins its 5 week long Intermediate Evening Classes from 17 October to 14 November. Or attend a month-long Weekday “10 to 2” course for Beginners/Intermediate and learn a new cooking technique every week from 27 September to 18 October.

Additional courses, aimed at learning a new skill to take home, include one day courses on French Cuisine, Fish & Shellfish Workshop, Cooking with Game, Delicious and Healthy Eating, Gluten Free Baking, and Vegetarian Feast. There are a variety of one day courses offered for Teens and Children over the autumn period, as well as classes which bring a particular skill such as the Patisserie course.

ENTCS Principal, Fiona Burrell, comments: “Whether students want to learn knife skills or life skills, our courses bring the highest standard of teaching and can either lead to exciting careers in the food industry, or just bring a professional approach to your home cooking. We have a passion for food and a passion for teaching, and mixing them together makes for inspiring training.

“We bring a unique approach to our professional courses and offer a high pupil / teacher ratio, plus a dedication that sees us using the best quality ingredients and top of the range equipment.”
