Jan 26, 2018-Jan 13, 2019: Treasury of Knowledge. 650 Years of the Austrian National Library
The Austrian National Library celebrates its 650th anniversary in 2018. This jubilee year is the perfect opportunity for a special exhibition, featuring unusual items from each of the library's eight collections, presented in the State Hall. A rich program of events will also mark the occasion. Exhibits include magnificent handwritten works and precious early prints that pull back the curtain on European literary and cultural history, while precious musical scores, maps, manuscripts, photos and graphics taken from the eight collections will provide plenty of food for thought.

As one of the most radical proponents of Viennese Actionism, Günter Brus made his own body a locus of artistic exploration at the start of the 1960s. To mark his 80th birthday, the 21er Haus is devoting a major retrospective taking in the entirety of this exceptional Austrian artist's work.

Feb 14-Jun 24, 2018: Man Ray/Kunstforum Wien
While Man Ray's photography is a staple in any overview exhibition on Dadaism or Surrealism worth its salt, in German-speaking countries he has rarely been considered as a universal artist. His reputation for pushing boundaries not only applies to the diverse range of media in which he worked, but is equally valid in the context of the two artistic hubs of the 20th century – Paris and New York – between which he split his time. The exhibition is dedicated to the “whole Man Ray” and takes a critical look at the lifelong themes that accompanied his work, such as that of proximity and distance.

Mar 19-Oct 13, 2018: 300 Years of Viennese Porcelain 1718-2018/Augarten Porcelain Museum
This special anniversary exhibition at the Porcelain Museum in the Augarten Park focuses on the dialogue between designers and users of Viennese porcelain since 1718. Selected items by innovative designers from different periods are presented in the context of the people and places for which they were created. As part of the show, the designers currently collaborating with Augarten Porcelain were invited to design the contemporary area of the exhibition space.

Feb 16-May 13, 2018: The Viennese watercolor/Albertina
This exhibition presents a series of paintings characterized by exceptional beauty. Showcasing some of the outstanding pieces from the museum's own collection alongside loans, it illuminates the important role played by Viennese watercolor painting in 19th-century art. Transparent lightness, vibrant colors and atmospheric effect are among the particular qualities of Viennese watercolor painting from this era. Masterful cityscapes and landscapes, detailed portraits, genre paintings and flower paintings are just some of the focuses of this heyday of Austrian art.

May 9-Jun 24, 2018: Keith Haring/Albertina
The Albertina is dedicating a comprehensive retrospective to Keith Haring (1958–1990), who would have turned 60 in 2018. The exhibition examines all aspects of this exceptional American artist's creative output, from both the historical and formal perspectives. Its point of departure is the unique symbolic language that runs throughout Haring's oeuvre, like an artistic alphabet. Haring's subway works, paintings, sketches and sculptures reflect his commitment to social justice and constant transformation.

May 16-Sep 23, 2018: 300 Years of Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur/MAK
A major exhibition at the MAK sheds light on the history of Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur, presenting the company's foundation in 1718 as the product of cultural transfer between Asia and Europe. The style and taste of products made by the Viennese factory – the oldest in Europe after Meissner, which was founded eight years earlier in 1710 – set new standards from the outset and continued to do so throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The show combines international loan pieces with leading exhibits from the museum's own collection. Since its foundation, the MAK has curated the estate of Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur which closed in 1864 and is active in the field of porcelain research.

Inspired by Beauty and the Abyss. Klimt.Schiele.Wagner.Moser., Vienna will celebrate Modernism and four of the era's chief protagonists in 2018, all of whom died in 1918. The painters Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, the architect Otto Wagner and the universal artist Koloman Moser all left an indelible mark on Vienna around 1900. Their life and work will be remembered at numerous exhibitions during the anniversary year.
