Walled Garden at Exton Park, Rutland 30 Mar 2015
Lantern & Larks Announces New Glamping Site

Lantern & Larks

Lantern & Larks is opening a new glamping site in the walled garden at Exton Park, Rutland, less than three miles from Rutland Water.

A beautiful C18th brick wall contains the sheltered 5-acre garden, which gradually slopes down to an ornamental lake at the southern end where ospreys have been known to catch their supper!  For 2015 there will be 5 colonial-style 6-berth tents, spread around the orchard and old kitchen garden (increasing to 8 tents in 2016). Exton Park has 14 miles of paths and bridleways for guests to explore from the doorstep of their tent.

Lantern & Larks' ethos is 'Comfort under Canvas.'  The luxurious tents have three bedrooms (double, twin & bunk), WC and shower with hot & cold running water.  Living accommodation comprises a sitting/dining area, fully equipped kitchen with wood-burning stove, and a large wooden deck complete with iron fire pit.

Exton's former potting shed houses the honesty shop, supplying firewood and a range of farmhouse provisions including BBQ kits and the popular Campfire Kit (marshmallows, bananas, fruit, chocolate pieces, wooden skewers & menu card).

NOTES TO EDITORS

Bookings at Exton Park will be taken from April; the site will open in June 2015.

Lantern & Larks launched in 2014 with two sites, at Bleasdale in Lancashire's Forest of Bowland and at Sweffling Hall Farm near Framlingham, Suffolk.  The summer 2014 season was fully booked.

Exton Park, 20 minutes by car from Peterborough, is home to the Gainsborough family.  The parkland has existed since C12th & the gardens witnessed performances by Handel in C18th.  The house and grounds are occasionally used for weddings and regularly as a location for film and photo shoots.

Rutland Water is set in 4200 acres of open countryside and offers a great range of activities for all ages, from watersports, cycling & an outdoor adventure park to nature trails, birdwatching and walking.

Lantern & Larks are currently looking at potential sites in Cornwall, Somerset, Norfolk and Shropshire, and are interested in hearing from landowners along the coasts of East Anglia and the South of England.
