Giving Something Back - Real Africa Launches New Elephant Conservation Safaris

Real Africa

Real Africa is proud to announce the launch of new 'Conservation' safari modules which can be incorporated into a longer tailormade safari. These modules focus on  staying at specific properties actively involved in community and conservation projects, from Singita Pamushana in Zimbabwe to Elephant Watch Camp in Kenya's Samburu.  Stays, usually of 3 nights or more, result in a donation on a per person basis from the Real Africa Trust to the specific project in question. Many clients wish to contribute to conservation, as well as enjoying a holiday. This is way for them to acheive both goals.

Furthermore if clients wish to visit one of the projects supported by the Real Africa Trust, the charity arm of the tour operator Real Africa,  expert staff are happy to assist in making the necessary arrangements. Many clients choose to visit projects within a tailor-made tour, for example, the pioneering Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi where it is possible to become part of an elephant fostering programme. Others choose to donate to the Trust on their return, via the Trust's  Virgin Giving page. Staff advise clients about costs if they are keen to sponsor something specific, for instance an elephant collar via Save The Elephants.

The two new modules in question include stays at Elephant Watch Camp, Samburu National Reserve, the base for BBC2 series This Wild Life featuring wildlife filmmaker Saba Douglas-Hamilton, and Richard's Camp in the Masai Mara. Elephant Watch Camp's guide are all trained to recognise all the elephants on the reserve and work alongside experts from Save The Elephants, the charity founded by Saba Douglas-Hamilton's father, Dr Iain Douglas-Hamilton, one of the world's foremost authorities on African elephants. Richard's Camp has partnered with the the Kenya Wildlife Service and Save The Elephants and is the base for the Mara Elephant Project, founded by camp owners Liz and Richard in 2011, and instrumental in human-wildlife conflict mitigation and anti-poaching via collaring, tracking and monitoring.

A 6 day itinerary with return flights from the UK and 3 nights all-inclusive accommodation at Elephant Watch Camp, Samburu National Reserve costs from £2725 per person.

An 8 day itinerary with return flights from the UK with 3 nights at Elephant Watch Camp, Samburu and 3 nights at Richard's Camp in the Masai Mara costs from £4995 per person.

Giving something back

Award-winning UK based safari sepcialist, Real Africa donates into the Real Africa Trust (registered charity 1149508) on behalf of every client who books, as well as fundraising through its staff, friends and clients via a multitude of events. In June, £10,000 was raised by a charity ball inspired by Real Africa's clients, the Witte family, who visited a school supported by the Trust on the edge of the Masai Mara.

Real Africa is currently promoting an event at the Royal Geographical Society to be held on the evening of 8 October featuring wildlife filmmaker Saba Douglas-Hamilton with the proceeds going to Save The Elephants. For further information or to book tickets please visit www.realafrica.co.uk
