Flybes Quirky Search Uncovers More Than Just Kirk Wall!

Flybe

Flybe, Europes largest and most successful regional airline, is delighted to have found five out of eight Scottish namesakes in its countrywide search for destination namesakes to commemorate Flybes first-ever branded flight from Glasgow with its franchise partner, Loganair that took off late last year.

The competition invited anyone with the name Ben Becula or Kirk Wall or any creative derivation of any of the other destinations flown by Flybe-branded aircraft from Glasgow (Sumburgh, Stornaway, Barra, Tiree, Islay and Campbeltown) - to take part in the quirky search.

Flybe was delighted to have been contacted by a real Kirk Wall (from Hampshire), Tiree (Rodden from Inverness), Islay (McVean from Dunbartonshire) as well as by a creative colleague of a delighted Sam Burrows (Sumburgh) from Northants and, lastly, receiving an inspiring motivation from Donald Morrison of Co Durham whose widely used Internet forum name gave Flybe its Ben Becula. Donald has strong ancestral links with Benbecula and he and his wife visit the Western Isles on a regular basis.

Mike Rutter, Flybes Chief Commercial Officer, comments: We thought our search for these namesakes would be a bit of a tall order but we were bowled over with the phenomenal interest shown in the competition and we thank all those who entered.

All winners won two free return flights with Flybe anywhere on its extensive expanded network.

Flybes agreement with new franchise partner, Loganair, started on October 26th at the start of the 2008/09 Winter Schedule. It is the first deal of its kind ever for a UK low cost carrier and has created an exciting synergy between two of Scotlands best known airlines. It offers passengers the many benefits to be gained from a diverse and expanded route network with a wide choice of connections.
