Condé Nast Traveler editors recently named two Red Carnation Hotel Collection properties among their absolute favorite 150 hotels in their prestigious “Gold List 2016.” This list sets the gold standard for international hotels, resorts and cruise lines – spanning six continents and 47 countries – and every included property must first be voted into the 2015 “Readers' Choice Awards.”
The editors chose Dorset's Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Restaurant and Spa and Ireland's Ashford Castle as two of their favorite hotels in the world due to their breathtaking locations, stunning accommodations, and highly personalized service – all hallmarks of Red Carnation's commitment to providing guests with truly unique and unforgettable experiences.
“The feeling you have stepped into a 19th century novel is no accident,” Condé Nast editors wrote of Summer Lodge. “Beyond the fact that the hotel is Thomas Hardy designed, the 24 rooms are decorated in florals, fabrics, and wallpapers to provide a homey English setting like no other. Strolling in the adjacent deer park will complete the literary fantasy, as will expert unobtrusive service.”
Summer Lodge is set in four acres of beautifully tended gardens and features a 3 AA Rosette fine dining restaurant and an extensive cellar of wines selected by an award-winning sommelier. This Relais & Châteaux property was voted into three separate categories this year by Condé Nast readers: #1 in the “Top 10 Hotels in the United Kingdom (not including London)” category; #2 in the “Top 25 Hotels in Europe” category; and #18 in the “Top 100 Hotels & Resorts in the World.”
For Ashford Castle, the editors wrote: “This 13th century castle, set against a backdrop of forests, mountains, and Lough Corrib, is 'in a class of its own.' Formerly the Guinness family home, and a location in John Ford's The Quiet Man, it now has guest rooms with high ceilings and four-poster beds, some with fireplaces, antique furnishings, and claw-foot tubs… Service throughout is outstanding.”
Ashford Castle has been fully restored to its historic splendor, is home to Ireland's first School of Falconry, and is a regular host to royalty, dignitaries and celebrities. The castle was voted #4 in the “Top 30 Resorts in Europe” category and #100 in the “Top 100 Hotels & Resorts in the World” in the 2015 “Readers' Choice Awards.”
