CBP's New Mobile App for Entry Process Praised for Improving Traveler Experience

U.S. Travel Association

WASHINGTON (August 12, 2014)—The U.S. Travel Association today praised the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) launch of its first Mobile Passport Control app, allowing eligible travelers to submit entry process information via their own smartphone or tablet prior to CBP inspection.

"Once again, CBP has taken steps to improve efficiency and reduce hassles while maintaining strict security requirements. The agency's Mobile Passport prototype allows eligible arriving passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to submit passport information and customs declaration forms right in the palms of their hands. This new app streamlines CBP resources and creates an expedited entry experience that aligns with today's digital age," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. "Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske and others at CBP earn our praise for this creative offering that will surely be a hit with travelers coming through air ports of entry across America."

Developed by Airside Mobile and Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) in partnership with the CBP, the app is presently available to iPhone and iPad users for free. Mobile Passport is expected to expand to more airports later this year and to Android smartphone users in the future, according to CBP.

The new app follows the CBP's recent innovative introduction of an automated I-94 Arrival / Departure Record, which also improves the admissions process for international travelers lawfully visiting the United States and maximizes CBP officer capabilities, and Automated Passport Control, which is now available in more than 20 locations.
