With domestic and international visitation to Australia's capital at record numbers, Canberra's accommodation offerings are constantly on the rise. Here's the most recent accommodation additions, take-overs and enhancements:

  • Canberra's ARIA hotel has been sold to the Toga Far East (TFE) group and was rebranded as an Adina Serviced Apartments Canberra on 1 March 2018. Located in Dickson, Adina Serviced Apartments Canberra is a medium-rise serviced apartment complex comprising 128 large apartment-style hotel guest rooms and café. TFE owns a number of properties in Canberra including Hotel Kurrajong (TFE Collections), Medina apartments (city and Kingston) and Vibe Hotel Canberra Airport.
  • On 1 March 2018 the popular Hotel Hotel in the NewActon precinct – built by the local Molonglo Group – was sold to Hong Kong based boutique hotel chain Ovolo. Hotel Hotel was rebranded to Ovolo Nishi following Ovolo's acquisition of the business, operations and the staff that work for the hotel and its hatted restaurant, Monster Kitchen + Bar.
  • The Mantra Macarthur Hotel on the corner of Canberra's main thoroughfare Northbourne Ave opened in late September 2017. It is along a tram stop for the Canberra Metro light rail which will be in operation down Northbourne Avenue by the end of 2018. The full service hotel is a mix of 136 hotel rooms and 40 suites over eight levels.
  • Visitors to the popular Murrumbateman wineries in the Canberra District – a 30 minute drive from the CBD – are benefitting from a new hotel built by the Geocon Group who own four Abode Hotels in the ACT. The 52-room Abode Murrumbateman hotel opened on the Fairley residential development (owned by Shaw Wineries owner Graham Shaw) and is expected to increase accommodation in the area by 30 per cent. The project has received overwhelming support from nearby wineries including Helm Wines, Clonakilla, Eden Road, Four Winds Vineyard, Yarrh Wines and McKellar Ridge Wines. The hotel opened February 2018.
  • A five-star Adina Apartment Hotel Grand with 132 rooms over four levels is being built in the city centre near the Canberra Theatre as part of a larger development that will include a large ACT Government office block and is scheduled to be ready by 2020.
  • The popular suburb of Kingston will have a brand new property in late 2018 when the 61-room Abode Kingston opens up close to the Kingston village which is a popular cafes and restaurant precinct.
  • A new 160-room Abode Hotel will be the centrepiece of GEOCON's latest mixed-use project 'Midnight' at 92 Northbourne Ave, Braddon in the heart of Canberra. Midnight will consist of three integrated buildings with the Abode Hotel wrapped around an internal courtyard at the core of the complex. The nine storey project will include 250 private apartments and commercial and retail space on the ground and first levels. The activated street frontage has been designed to facilitate pedestrian access through the building for transit from the adjacent Eloura Street light rail stop to the Braddon precinct. Scheduled to open in 2018.
