Bowl Split During First International Lawn Bowls Tournament

Garuda Indonesia

The first Bali International Lawn Bowls Tournament was played with such enthusiasm earlier this month that amongst other things, one of the bowls was split. The group of thirty Australian and New Zealand travel agents playing in the tournament were the guests of Garuda Orient Holidays and Garuda Indonesia. Flown to Bali as Top Achievers, the agents got down to some serious fun on Saturday at the recently opened Bali International Lawn Bowls Club.

The competition was fierce, albeit with more spirit than skill being the order of the day. Club owner, Aussie expat John Same, arranged for some local bowling talent to play along, and the games got really exciting as teams were split by state and traditional rivalries came to the fore.

The fun and crazy bowls tournament was arranged by John and his wife Belinda, owners of the club, to introduce the agents to the new facility and draw attention to the Bowl over to Bali packages included in the 2002/3 Bali on ANY budget brochure. The agents were treated to a sneak preview of the new brochure as part of their Top Achievers Weekend.

Prizes and trophies in the bowls tournament were awarded to the winning team of agents from WA as well as to the woodenspooners the New South Wales team. Many grudging comments were made about some teams being more prepared than others, implying that information about the tournament had been leaked.

The Bali International Lawn Bowls Club officially opened its doors in August 2001. Boasting two international standard greens, a clubhouse, the Jack Hi Bar as well as an air-conditioned Bridge Room, the club is situated in Balis exclusive Nusa Dua enclave.

For more information about incorporating lawn bowls into your Bali holiday, see the Bowl over to Bali section in the 2002/3 edition of Bali on ANY budget.
