Wimbledon has passed (congratulations Andy Murray), the Ashes are nearly back in British hands, a Brit has won the Tour de France. What next? The World Bog Snorkeling Championships! That's what's next. On 25th August 2013 the 28th World Bog Snorkeling Championships will be held in Llanwrtyd Wells, Mid Wales.
The current World Champion is Richard Addis in a time of 1 minute 26.5 seconds, and the current World Record time held by Andrew Holmes is an amazing 1 minute 24.22 seconds. Last years’ bog snorkelers included several stag parties and participants from France, Australia and Scandinavia, making this a truly international event.
What is bog snorkeling? Bog snorkeling is just as it sounds. A group of like minded thrill seekers kitted out in wet suits, often fancy dress and snorkeling gear jump into a bog and race against time.
It all started over a pint (surprise surprise) in the Neuadd Arms Hotel in Llanwrtd Wells. Local tourism was in decline and desperate measures were called for. A group of friends including then landlord Gordon Green put their heads together and came up with bog snorkelling! But hang on a minute they didn’t stop there. Other extraordinary events held throughout the year include the Man v Horse Marathon (yes men and women race against horses), Real Ale Wobble (something to do with consuming real ale and riding bicycles), Welsh International Four Days Walks, Drovers Walks and more. Green Events was born and the rest is history.

It is a perfect base for walking, mountain biking, bird watching even bog snorkeling! If one is of a more relaxed disposition, one could be a spectator instead.
There is always need for cheer leaders to encourage the brave hearts along and each event is guaranteed full of fun and laughter.
