Atta Appoints Aviation Expert And UK Travel Specialist To The Board

ATTA (African Travel and Tourism Association)

Atta ~ The African Travel & Tourism Association is pleased to announce two new appointments to the Board of Directors guiding the association in new ways to serve our aviation and UK tour operator members.

The Board of Directors at Atta are drawn from the various disciplines of membership in UK, Europe and Africa including accommodation suppliers, travel operators, aviation, representation companies and media.

Katie Fewkes of Scott Dunn (UK) has been appointed to represent the UK tour operators, and Julian Edmunds of Tanganyika Flying Co (Tanzania) becomes Aviation and East Africa director of Atta.

A lifelong love of all things Africa led Katie to join the East Africa sales team at Audley in 2006, tailor making luxury safaris for the UK market. After five years in sales, she became Africa Product Manager, looking after product for Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles and Mauritius. In 2014 Katie moved to London to become Product Development Manager Tailormade Commercial in the global product team at Scott Dunn, working alongside the sales teams and senior management to drive sales growth, product development, commercial work and strategy.

Katie has commented on her new role: “I'm delighted to be joining the Atta board and looking forward to getting involved in promoting tourism to Africa. It's an honour to be representing UK tour operators and working alongside the rest of the Atta board to ensure we continue to see growth in travel to this beautiful continent.”

A new discipline "Aviation" has been created at the Atta board for the first time. Julian Edmunds of Tanganyika Flying Co will also represent East Africa and in particular Tanzania. Julian has been a member of Atta since it was formed and his wide knowledge of aviation and African tourism will be invaluable. Julian started in the Travel industry in 1989 as a Safari Tour Operator, before moving back to Zimbabwe to establish Bush Telegraph, a marketing and consultancy company specialising in marketing safari camps and lodges to tour operators throughout the world. The down turn in tourism in Zimbabwe allowed him the time to undertake Private Pilots License. He has started TFC in 2007 which provides high quality scheduled, charter and contract aviation services in Tanzania and throughout East Africa.

Julian says “Having been a founder member of Atta, I look forward to being part of the team to help shape the future. It is time I put something Back!  and 2015 is the year of being positive.”

Atta is delighted to have a very strong team guiding the association in 2015 and helping us through what will no doubt be another challenging year for African tourism. The Atta board consist of Nigel Vere Nicoll, Anita Powell, Ross Kennedy, Tim Henshall, Ingram Casey, Mohanjeet Brar, Ico Inanc, Honour Schram de Jong, Damian Cook, Graham Boynton, Fiona Jeffery OBE and André Laget.
