Paying homage to four of Thai mythology's most virtuous heroines -Manorah, Matthana, Rodjana and Busaba -Vana Spa's treatments and rituals employ exotic and opulent elements that are deep-rooted in Thailand's rich culture. Key Inspirations:

 

1. Manorah:

 

Youngest of 7 sisters, a Kinnaree princess with the wings and tail of swan, she possesses greater grace and beauty than mortal women. One day, a young hunter happened upon them, when Manorah was bathing with her sisters, having removed her wings and tail (and thus gained the appearance of a mortal maiden). This hunter was transfixed by her beauty and decided to capture a Kinnaree as tribute for his prince. Using a magic rope he captured Manorah, while her sisters escaped. She was presented to the prince, and eventually did fall in love and marry her captor. However, jealousy and intrigue surrounded them and she was scapegoated an set to be sacrificed in fire. Manorah was not about to accept her fate quietly tough, and begged for one last chance to dance before being thrown on the bonfire. Once her accusers agreed, she wore her wings and tail again and after a quick dance flew away to freedom.

2. Matthana:

 

Her story showcases the dangers that can arise from passionate love that turns sour when unrequited. The powerful angel Suthed fell in love with the beautiful Matthana, renowned throughout the heavens for her graceful from and figure. However, when she didn't return his feelings, he became infuriated. In his rage, he cursed Matthana to turn into a fragrant rose, a flower before only found in heaven, and banished her to the mortal world in the Himmapan forest. Only once a month during the full moon would Matthana be able to return to her original form for one day and one night. The curse would unravel once she finds true love, allowing her to live out the rest of her life as a mortal woman. However, even as she finds true love with Taochaisen, she is confronted with jealously and intrigue, and is falsely accused of infidelity. At her wit's end, she begs Suthed for help. He only agrees if she becomes his. She declines again, and is thus cursed to remain a rose again for all eternity.

3. Rodjana

 

The beautiful youngest daughter of King Saamon, who when picking her future betrothed defied everyone's expectations in choosing the outwardly ugly "Ngorh"/Phra Sun Thong. He did not seem worthy of Rotjana's favor, and her father banished the both of them in his rage. However, Rothjana saw into the true core of her soul mate Phra Sun Thong and recognized that he was merely wearing the ugly "Ngorh" appearance to mask his true golden beauty. Eventually, the King also realizes this and all is well.

4. Busaba

 

A Javanese princess of such beauty and grace that wherever she appears she is accompanied by beguiling scents and the sound of music, Princess Busaba is smart, quick-witted, gracious and upholds family honor, even at the cost of her own personal happiness. She is also patient and always has a firm grasp of who she is. Her story is tied with the Javanese tale of Inao (Inu Panyee Karatapati) of the Indonesian Shailendra Dynasty (870 A.D.), a great lover as well as a valiant warrior. At first, Inao, after an arranged engagement set up by Budsaba's family, refused to marry her. This made her father so angry that he said he would give her away to the first man who offered to marry her. After interfamily wars and complex affairs, the couple fell in love and lived happily ever after.
