New hotels are springing up all over Los Angeles, with 27 new hotels under construction and an additional 20 in the final planning stages. These 47 hotel projects will deliver more than 8,400 new hotel rooms to the L.A. area by 2018. Here are some highlights to watch out for:
2016
Dazzler The Clark
Esplendor Boutique hotels will debut the 347 room Dazzler The Clark in early 2016 just north of Pershing Square in Downtown L.A. The 11 story renovated 113-year-old historic building will feature guest rooms with lively Mod-style details, a ballroom, a pool deck and multiple dining spaces.
Esplendor Trinity Hotel
Opening in April 2016, the Esplendor Trinity Hotel will debut from Esplendor Boutique Hotels. The 1914 fully restored building boasting 183 rooms, the historic Trinity Auditorium, a stunning ballroom, a rooftop pool deck and a restaurant/bar with outdoor patio.
Dream Hollywood Hotel
The West Coast's first Dream Hotel will debut in the heart of Hollywood on Selma and Cahuenga in April 2016.Designed by the award winning Rockwell Group, the 10 story boutique luxury Dream Hollywood Hotel will feature 182 hyper-chic rooms and suites, unique-to-market dining experiences and a rooftop pool and lounge.
NoMad Los Angeles
Sydell Group (The Line Hotel) will transform Giannini Place, a historic 1923 building in Downtown Los Angeles, into NoMad Los Angeles in July 2016. The 12 story hotel will feature 250 guest rooms with custom-designed furnishings and original artwork. Guests will have access to a rooftop pool boasting panoramic views of the city. NoMad will also offer multiple food and beverage venues, in addition to 1,000 square foot of retail and meeting rooms.
Freehand Hotel and Hostel
Sydell Group will introduce the Freehand Hotel and Hostel in October 2016 after transforming the 1924 Commercial Exchange Building in Downtown L.A.'s historic core. The 13 story building will boast 200 rooms, ranging from traditional accommodations to high-design hostels (or “poshtels”) with up to eight beds. The hotel will also feature a lobby living room, retail options, restaurant and bar offerings in addition to a rooftop pool and lounge.
Cambria El Segundo LAX
Choice Hotels International's upscale Cambria badge will enter the Los Angeles area with the opening of Cambria El Segundo LAX. Slated to open in October 2016, the hotel will be developed by Fillmore Hospitality and feature 152 rooms and a bistro called Social Circle. The hotel will be located approximately three kilometres south of Los Angeles International Airport
The James Los Angeles
The James Hotel brand will arrive to the Los Angeles area in December 2016. It will be situated in the heart of the iconic Sunset Strip at the southeast corner of Sunset and La Cienega Boulevards in West Hollywood. The James Los Angeles will be the first new ground-up hotel in West Hollywood in approximately 30 years and will be comprised of two 10 story towers with 286 rooms, two restaurants, rooftop and lobby bars and approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
2017
Hotel Indigo Downtown Los Angeles
InterContinental Hotels Group will debut Hotel Indigo Downtown Los Angeles, a hip 350 room hotel in January 2017. The 18 story Hotel Indigo will be the flagship hotel at Metropolis, a USD$1 billion mixed-use development, which will feature three residential towers and a curated retail experience. The property will sit at the heart of Downtown L.A., linking the Financial District to L.A. LIVE. Design for the hotel will be inspired by its surrounding neighbourhood and will focus on prominent narratives from Downtown's past including Fiesta De Las Flores, the glamorous pre-Hollywood nightlife scene and the underground speakeasies of the roaring twenties.
Downtown L.A. Proper
In early 2017, Proper Hotels is slated to open Downtown L.A. Proper, a high-end lifestyle boutique hotel geared toward leisure and business travellers. The 13 story hotel will boast 145 guest rooms, two unique presidential suites as well as a rooftop with a restaurant, bar and swimming pool. The historic 1924 building will be located at 11th and Broadway.
The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills
The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills will be a new 12-story, 170 room luxury hotel that will rise at the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards in Beverly Hills. Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills will boast inspirational cuisine from award-winning chefs, a rooftop pool and lounge, lobby bar and upscale exclusive retail. The hotel is slated to open in June 2017.
InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown
InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown at Wilshire Grand Center will stand 73 stories tall and feature 900 luxury rooms, 400,000 square feet of office space, new shops, restaurants and thrilling nightlife options. It will be the tallest building west of Chicago at 1,100 feet when it opens in June 2017.
Thompson Hollywood Hotel
Thompson Hotels will debut Thompson Hollywood Hotel in 2017 on Wilcox near Sunset. The property will boast 220 rooms across 12 floors, a pool deck, restaurants, meeting rooms and a bar that will share the rooftop with a 1,000 square foot penthouse lounge.
2018
J.W. Marriott Los Angeles Expansion
J.W. Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE will expand to create an additional 38-story hotel tower with 755 rooms. Combined with the existing J.W. Marriott L.A. LIVE and The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles, the property will become California's second largest hotel, offering a total of 1,756 rooms when it opens in 2018. The new tower will be connected to the existing hotels by a bridge across Olympic Boulevard. The property will also boast more than 200,000 square feet of function space and a second-floor amenity deck will feature a restaurant, bar/lounge, fitness centre, executive lounge and pool area with cabanas.
The West Hollywood EDITION
The first U.S. West Coast property under Marriott International and Ian Schrager's EDITION lifestyle brand will open on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip in March 2018. Developed by the Witkoff Group and New Valley, the hotel will have 148 rooms.
Cavalli Hotel
Fig Central, a USD$1 billion mixed-use development project across STAPLES Center, will feature a 183 room five-star luxury hotel – Cavalli Hotel – branded and inspired by Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, the first of its kind in the world when it opens in June 2018.
2019
W Los Angeles Downtown
The W Los Angeles Downtown is slated to open in early 2019. The 250 room property will be located across the street from L.A. LIVE and STAPLES Centre and will be the W brand's third location in Southern California. The hotel will feature a spa, outdoor pool deck and destination restaurants along with approximately 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
