NEW ROSSINI NATIONAL MUSEUM IN PESARO
The new Museo Nazionale Rossini was opened recently in Rossini's birthplace, the city of Pesaro in Le Marche Region. The museum occupies the “piano nobile” of Palazzo Montani Antaldi, in the heart of Pesaro which has been also declared “City of Music” by Unesco. On show at the museum are important pieces such as a piano belonging to Rossini and original opera costumes, music sheets and other musical instruments. www.museonazionalerossini.it

Since 1998, the lovely town of Corinaldo in the Le Marche region hosts the “Feast of the Witches” to coincide with Halloween. The town transform itself into an open air amusement park with attractions such as the tunnel of fear, fear-inspiring places and dressed up characters in the most frightening costumes. The main event is the election of Miss Witch, a beauty contest with a difference!

The Festival of Our Lady of Health is perhaps the less spectacular of Venice festivities, but not less interesting and authentic. In a religious context it is an event dedicated to the Madonna in thanksgiving for her intercession which put an end to the plague which struck Venice between the years 1630-1631.

Siracusa celebrates Santa Lucia's birthday on 13 December in a touching and emotional celebration. The Feast starts on 1st December with a festive playing popular tunes played by the band along the city streets, on 9 December the religious celebrations start in the St. Lucia Chapel in the Cathedral to culminate on 13 December with a solemn procession and fireworks.
