Congham Hall Hotel Flies The Flag For East Anglia With English Wine Week Offer And Special Menu

Congham Hall Hotel

Award-winning Congham Hall Hotel is raising a glass to English Wine Week (24 May-1 June) by offering guests the chance to sample a vintage or two from East Anglia. The hotel will lay on a special lunch menu featuring local wines, while guests who book to stay two nights or more during the week-long celebration will receive a complimentary bottle of Congham Rosé, from a nearby Norfolk vineyard.

An aperitif of Sparkling Brut Zero 2012 from Giffords Hall Vineyard in Suffolk will be served to diners as they choose either the two- or three-course lunch, costing £23 or £29.50 per head. The two-course meal will be accompanied by a glass of either Congham Rosé, or white Bacchus 2012, which is produced at New Hall Vineyards in Essex. A glass of each will be served with three-course meals.

The English Wine Week menu has a spring theme, featuring the best locally sourced produce of the season, including herbs from the hotel's own plot of more than 400 varieties, which is a popular attraction for garden-lovers. There will be a choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts. Starters include smoked mackerel, crab and salmon fishcakes with dressed Congham leaves and radishes and a garden sorrel sauce. While one of the main-course options is slow-cooked rump of Congham beef with smoked garlic mash, griddled local asparagus and scallions, wild mushrooms and red wine sauce. The dessert trolley includes elderflower panna cotta with poached rhubarb, raspberry tuile and sorbet.

Congham Hall is an excellent base for exploring East Anglia's wine country, many of which will be hosting tours, tastings of new and established wines, and even art exhibitions during English Wine Week, including Humbleyard near Norwich, Giffords Hall near Bury St Edmunds, and Elysian Fields near Ely. Other local businesses supporting English Wine Week include Bank House in King's Lynn and the Rose and Crown in Snettisham.

Congham Hall's English Wine Week lunch menu and wine offer is available from 24 May to 1 June. Booking for lunch is advised.

Notes to editors:

Relaunched in May 2013, the 26-room Congham Hall Hotel sits in 30 acres of parkland, including orchards and its renowned Herb Garden, which has 400-plus varieties and attracts visitors from far and wide. The modernised, 2 AA Rosette, bistro-style restaurant features much homegrown produce on its menu. Congham Hall has the biggest spa of its local boutique hotel competitors, which includes a 12-metre swimming pool, four therapy rooms, a thermal suite, and treatments featuring Elemental Herbology products.

Congham Hall offers five-star service at three-star prices, in stylish but relaxed surroundings. The hotel picked up Best Small Hotel in the UK at the International Hotel Awards in November 2012 and Best Independent Hotel at the Eastern Daily Press/VisitNorfolk.co.uk Tourism Awards in November 2013.

Nicholas Dickinson and his team took over Congham Hall in March 2012. The hotel relaunched in May 2013 after completing the last phase of a major refurbishment. Nicholas has spent his entire working life in the luxury hotel business. Early on, he worked at the five-star country-house hotel Chewton Glen and Raymond Blanc's two-Michelin-starred restaurant and hotel, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons. In 1994, Nicholas formed a partnership with Nigel Chapman, who had developed Woolley Grange in Wiltshire. Together, they created Luxury Family Hotels, which soon became the market leader in the UK for luxury family short breaks, and Alias Hotels, for the stylish mid-market corporate and leisure sectors. Both groups were successfully sold and Nicholas and Nigel went on to develop Martinhal Resort on Portugal's Algarve. This is Nicholas's first independent hotel project.
