Today leading inflight mobile phone operator AeroMobile has announced it is launching a roaming agreement with SFR, the second largest operator in France.
The agreement will allow SFR's post-pay customers to use voice, SMS and data services while onboard AeroMobile connected flights. As a result of the partnership, 12.9 million of SFR's 17.9 million* customers in France can now use their mobile phones inflight to text, talk and browse the internet.
A registered mobile network operator for the aviation industry, AeroMobile has 279 roaming partners in 130 countries, including French operators Orange France and Bouygues.
AeroMobile's service is easy to use. Passengers simply turn on their mobile phone and ensure airplane mode is switched off. They will then be automatically connected to the network. Charges will appear on their next phone bill so there is no need for onboard payment. Prices are set by the user's home network operator and vary depending on individual contracts. They are typically comparable to international roaming tariffs.
The AeroMobile service is available on 276 aircraft across 13 airlines including selected Air France, Emirates, Etihad, Lufthansa and Virgin Atlantic aircraft. AeroMobile expects to see a 50 per centincrease in the number of connected aircraft during the next 12 months.
“We're pleased to add SFR to our growing list of roaming partners so that many more French passengers can now benefit from using their mobile phone inflight,” said Kevin Rogers, CEO of AeroMobile.
“It's great to see both airlines and roaming partners recognising the increasing demand from passengers to stay connected at all times – even at 30,000ft. We expect to see more and more passengers worldwide choosing to stay connected inflight,” continued Rogers.
