The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel Renovates Glass Tower with Two Distinct Guest Room Designs

The Amway Grand Plaza

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The 682-room Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, located along the Grand River in Grand Rapids, Michigan, will unveil a $14 million renovation to the 285-room Glass Tower in December 2014. As part of the Amway Hotel Collection, the renovation includes two distinct designs, providing hotel guests with a variety of options during their stay.

“With more groups and visitors coming into Grand Rapids, The Amway Grand Plaza now has an array of room options to cater to the whim of every type of traveler,” says Richard Winn, president of Amway Hotel Corporation. “Whether guests are seeking classic or contemporary design, the new Glass Tower renovation adds a new level of luxury, comfort and quality to the property.”

Designed by Wendell Gooch of Chicago-based GoochDesignStudio, the vision was to create an urban space that is current and surprising for the new generation of travelers visiting the historic hotel, while paying homage to the rich history that sifts throughout the property. Following the completion of the renovation this winter, The Amway Grand Plaza will offer a vast mix of room designs to suit the needs of business, leisure and group guests. Creating a unique energy shift from one floor to another, the varying guest room options include:

  • The 228 Classic style rooms and 21 suites in the newly renovated Glass Tower feature an urban design.
  • The new 33 Concierge level rooms and three suites within the Glass Tower inspire a residential feel.
  • The historic Pantlind side boasting 356 rooms and 39 suites are well-appointed with traditional touches of luxury and period fixtures

Classic Rooms

The Glass Tower Classic Rooms reflect the youthful renaissance of Grand Rapids, creating a sophisticated surprise with a modern silver and charcoal palette, dramatic tones and urban exuberance. The sparkling black furniture mixed with the whimsical and playful damask patterns, which are featured in a cool crisp white and light gray, are a contrast to the reds, gold's and greens featured on the historic side of the property.

Concierge Level Rooms

Located near the top of the 29-story Glass Tower, the new Concierge Level Rooms include a caramel-colored palette featuring warm, rich earth tones and soft fabrics, creating the soothing vibe of a luxury condo. Located on the edge of the Grand River, large panoramic windows allow guests to enjoy a bird's eye view of downtown Grand Rapids and the picturesque bridges.

In both Glass Tower designs, guests can enjoy new stand-in showers or luxurious soaking tubs in suites and abstract art fixtures. A sparkling sunburst mirror and subtle chandelier accents personify the trademark Italian-gilded sunburst and the Austrian-crystal chandeliers that have graced the famous Pantlind Lobby at the Amway Grand Plaza throughout history. Local furniture brands, Haworth and other local furniture brands were used throughout the renovation to provide stylish yet functional work spaces coupled with high-tech lighting and universal smartphone charging stations.

Pantlind Guest Rooms

In addition to the Glass Tower rooms, guests can also choose to stay in the historic Pantlind accommodations.  Filled with vintage accents, each room has its own unique historic charm with restored moldings and fixtures, beautiful wood furnishings, and period artwork.

All 682 guest rooms at The Amway Grand Plaza are furnished with plush bedding, 42-inch flat screens, complimentary Wi-Fi or high-speed Internet access, top-tier bath products and enjoy nightly turndown service.

Newly renovated Glass Tower guestrooms start at $169 per night. For more information about Amway Grand Plaza, please visit www.amwaygrandplaza.com.
