Vision Becomes Reality With Budock Vean's New Helford River Boltholes

Budock Vean Hotel

With their cool, sleek interiors and floor to ceiling glass overlooking gardens, woods and fairways the first of the Budock Vean Hotel's new luxury holiday homes on Cornwall's Helford River are wowing their first guests with the triumph of great vision and design.

Along with top to toe views across 65 acres of tumbling lawns and gardens the first two of the new houses – bought off plan - give owners and the guests full use of the hotel's luxurious pool complex, golf course and tennis courts - all set in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The three-bedroomed “Grebe” and “August Rock” are also on the doorstep of the Budock Vean's famous bar and restaurant – one of Cornwall's best with specialities including local seafood and game – and the hotel's Natural Health Spa.

The idea for a real grand design with state of the art facilities and no comfort spared - which would enhance, not detract from, the beautiful setting - came from the Budock Vean's owner Martin Barlow, one of three generations of the family involved in the hotel.

“Really outstanding places for people to spend their precious holidays are hard enough to come by, but we've been creating just that in our own little bit of Cornish paradise,” says Martin.

“Our team of designers and builders have been fantastic and we've worked so carefully on our plans because we knew we had to get these homes absolutely right – something we can be proud of.”

Attention to detail comes from the ground up: a high-spec eco-design and build by RTP Surveyors and Nova Construction with pale wooden floors, cosy wood-burners and enviable bathrooms and kitchens (complete with wine fridges). The calm colour palates, contemporary furniture and sumptuous beds and furnishings are the work of 3idog interior designer Steve Coombe – the man behind a major on-going refurbishment of the Budock Vean itself.

Sarah Jansons was one of the first guests to stay in “Grebe” and she declares that photos cannot do it justice: “The fit-out is beautiful, high quality and uncluttered and everything you could possibly need is provided. The beds are fantastic too. Only one disappointment – the week we stayed it was too warm to light the log burner! We will definitely book one of these again.”

Two further Budock Vean houses will be completed in this first phase by the Spring with plans for other small clusters in the development stages. Like the first they are sold on a managed-lease basis – maintained, managed and let by the Budock Vean team, guaranteeing a regular income when owners are not staying themselves.

“Our hotel guests come back year after year and they are well aware of what a break at the Budock Vean is all about,” says Martin. “Our walks, river, beaches and seas are all very precious and our luxury houses are adding another dimension to what we can offer – in keeping with the quality and sensitivity of our natural surroundings.”
