Pure Evil has created his “Poema de Amor a Valparaíso” in a famous tourist area of Valparaíso, the Atkinson promenade on Concepcion Hill. The region has welcomed him following his wish to visit Valparaíso as part of his own personal history as well as his admiration for art in the area “Chile leads my list of countries where there is an interesting emerging art scene. I have heard of a few neighbourhoods on the hills of Valparaíso where groups of artists gather in a café and later paint murals together. This is where social connection has played an important role for many art movements.”
“Poema de Amor a Valparaíso” has taken three days of spray painting, a progression of colourful port houses, its rabbits and hearts (his trademark) and the Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda.
The undersecretary of Tourism, Javiera Montes, stated "We are sure this mural will become a tourist attraction in Chile and a part of Valparaíso will always remain in London as it was first announced to the public at WTM, one of Europe's most important tourism shows. We hope that this collaboration will inspire more UK travellers to visit Chile.”
The unveiling through a time-lapse video and images took place at a private evening event held at the Pure Evil Gallery in Shoreditch on Wednesday 5th November. Click here for Video

NOTES TO EDITORS
About Chile
This collaboration highlights one of the most important areas of culture in Chile. Many Latin American countries enjoy this culture of mural art but through this collaboration, Chile brings unity of art through tourism. Working with Charley has allowed for a new injection of cross-culture and intrigue for our UK visitors as well as those from other markets. During the trip, Charley also showed young children from the area how to spray paint and collaborated on the piece with local artist ValeClave (Valentina) who lives in the city. The piece will be in situ for the foreseeable future and will allow us to further showcase the artistic nature of the city through Chile's tourism strategy for 2015-16.
About Pure Evil
According to the artist, his pseudonym Pure Evil explores his darkest side. Raised in a Catholic environment in which the concept of good and evil are tied to each other, the artist´s critical sense focuses on discussing the most diabolic aspect of our society and world, infested by war and poverty without end. His work has a trademark, where pop culture icons are captured with a vampire-like look, with characters melting while his painting simulates an imminent apocalypse.
His success allowed him to open his own Pure Evil Gallery in Shoreditch, 2007. Here, the artist exhibits his work, as well as of other artists and it is where he unites with art creation, both through graphics and music.
Charleys' great great grandmother was an Echazarreta, who married Carlos Swinburn. Their daughter, Clara Luisa married David Burns in 1893. In 1875, Carlos left the UK and went to Valparaíso and became Presidente of the Banco de Chile in Valparaíso. They had a house in Santiago and spent summers in Vina del Mar. In 1906, an earthquake destroyed their home and very soon afterwards, they left to return to England. David still worked for the Bank of Chile in London. Charlie still has many cousins in Santiago. This trip was Charley's first time in Chile.
