The Langham, Xintiandi Introduces British Dining Etiquette Classes in Shanghai with the English Manner

The Langham Xintiandi, Shanghai

(Shanghai, November, 2014) Reinforcing its British heritage, The Langham, Xintiandi introduced British dining etiquette classes in the hotel in partnership with London-based The English Manner etiquette school. The first classes took place on 15 August, 2014 in the Chairman Suite, which made for a charming setting to host the British Afternoon Tea Etiquette Class and Royal British Fine Dining Etiquette Class.  The second class will take place on 22Nov, 2014.

Guests learnt the fundamentals of traditional British afternoon tea, proper deportment, correct tea service, pastry manners, duties as both a host and guest and much more at the British Afternoon Tea Etiquette Class.

At the Royal British Fine Dining Etiquette Class, guests learnt to orchestrate a dinner party with an aristocratic touch, learnt table settings, dining etiquette and social graces, as well as how to entertain guests and prepare invitations.

The classes were tutored by William Hanson, “the UK's leading etiquette and Royal protocol expert” as quoted by Financial Times, who is widely regarded as UK's freshest and most trusted authority on etiquette and protocol. His youth, coupled with his traditional values, makes him an unparalleled authority on modern manners.

Hanson is the author of the indispensible manual of modern-day social climbing, The Bluffer's Guide to Etiquette, which was released to high praise in January 2014. He has worked with VVIP households and trained politicians, business professionals and diplomats alike. In addition, he is also the world's only Guinness World Record-holding etiquette expert.

The first Langham Hotel opened in London in 1865 and was first to introduce English Afternoon Tea in a hotel. With its strong roots in British heritage, the hotel was famed for housing international royalty, dignitaries and celebrities including Winston Churchill, Oscar Wilde, Napoleon III and Diana, Princess of Wales. The Langham, Xintiandi aims to nurture its British roots in Shanghai through these etiquette classes.

As Hanson points out, the key to good manners is to make other people comfortable. Elegance is not only expressed to ourselves but also transmitted to others. The classes which were attended by business leaders and local celebrities received high affirmation and recognition as the guests increased their knowledge about good manners to be applied in their daily lives.
