Public Invited to Help Write Penguin Island History!

Rockingham Wild Encounters

Rockingham Wild Encounters is seeking help from the general public, who visited Penguin Island in the 60's, 70's, 80's or even earlier, to provide images and information as part of a community project they have undertaken.

The heritage project will see large displays of the rich history of Penguin Island displayed on the island along with an interactive heritage event featuring stories as far back as the early 1920's when Penguin Island's limestone caves housed hermit Seaforth McKenzie.  More information is sought to uncover the missing history of Penguin Island after this time and Rockingham Wild Encounters are asking members of the public to come forward with their photos and information.  One lucky entrant has the opportunity to win unlimited travel to Penguin Island for an entire season and two tickets to the 2015 Penguin Island heritage event opening night (further details on this event to follow).

“We would like the public to come forward and share their photos and stories with us and be a part of writing history, your history” said Rockingham Wild Encounters Director, Terry Howson. To enter simply visit penguisland.com.au and click the 'Help uncover Penguin Island's history' button.

Rockingham Wild Encounters encourages everyone to dig out old photos and memories of Penguin Island and be a part of writing history.

Rockingham Wild Encounters, located 45 minutes south of Perth, operates the only ferry service to Penguin Island and eco-cruises that specialise in interacting with the local marine wildlife while showcasing the highlights of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Rockingham Wild Encounters was recently awarded silver in the prestigious 2014 WA Tourism Awards for ecotourism and was the winner of the 2014 Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce Regional Business Awards in the tour operator category.
