From 25th April – 30th August 2026, Mallorca will host the first edition of PHOF – Mallorca PhotoFest, a brand-new biennial festival dedicated to photography and contemporary imagery, presented by Art Palma Contemporani.
Born with the aim of placing the image at the heart of Mallorca's cultural offering, the festival reinforces the island's role as an international platform for contemporary creation. Building on the legacy of Palma Photo, Mallorca PhotoFest brings a fresh perspective to visual culture, combining critical reflection, education, and hands-on participation.
For more than four months, Palma and municipalities across the island will become a stage for photography, with a network of museums, galleries, cultural centres, and public spaces transformed by exhibitions and events. With a focus on creativity, learning, and sustainable cultural tourism, Mallorca PhotoFest seeks to inspire locals and visitors and foster engagement with contemporary photography.
Four Ways to Experience Mallorca PhotoFest
Mallorca PhotoFest is structured into several sections, articulating both its ambitious programme and plurality of approaches, formats, and target audiences. These sections form the backbone of the project and will unfold as follows:
- PHOTOEXHIBITIONS - Dedicated to contemporary photography and image, with individual and collective projects presented in museums, cultural centres, galleries, independent spaces, and municipal venues throughout Mallorca.
- PHOTOTALKS - Programme of meetings, conferences, and roundtables that propose a space for reflection as well as critical, social, political and cultural debate around contemporary photography.
- PHOTOBOOK CLUB - Highlights photographic publishing and the creative processes linked to visual storytelling.
- PHOTOWALKS - A series of immersive tours and visits that proposes new ways of approaching the exhibitions and participating spaces.
Where Creativity Meets the City: Festival Spaces to Explore
One of the hallmarks of Mallorca PhotoFest is the diversity of spaces visitors will encounter while exploring Palma through their lens. From world-class museums and foundations to independent galleries and town halls, the festival brings the city to life to showcase exemplary talent across inspiring and iconic settings.
Examples of standout institutions visitors won't want to miss include Fundació Miró Mallorca, a treasure trove celebrating the genius and creative journey of Joan Miro; Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma, a dynamic hub for contemporary art that hosts cutting-edge exhibitions; and Casal Solleric, a beautifully restored historic building home to temporary workshops and exhibitions that bring together emerging and established artists.
About Art Palma Contemporani
Art Palma Contemporani, the association of contemporary art galleries in the Balearic Islands, has been working since its founding in 2004 to promote the island's cultural life and bring new artistic languages and emerging artists closer to its citizens.
Since 1997, the member galleries have organized Nit de l'Art (Night of Art) each year to kick off the exhibition season in Mallorca. Over the years, Nit de l'Art has become a must-attend event for locals, tourists, collectors and cultural enthusiasts alike. With galleries and restaurants open late, each autumn, Palma de Mallorca comes alive, buzzing with creativity and energy.
An organisation which plays a prominent role in Mallorca's cultural calendar, Art Palma Contemporani continues to celebrate the island's rich artistic heritage and reinforce its reputation as a vibrant, cosmopolitan hub for contemporary culture. With the debut of Mallorca PhotoFest, Palma de Mallorca continues to build on this momentum, adding to their successes on a biennial basis.
