A new four-legged resident has checked in at Hyatt Hotel Canberra, and she's already captured hearts.

After many years of dedicated service to the community with the Australian Federal Police, retired police dog Pixel is beginning a well-earned semi-retirement surrounded by comfort, care and affection at the capital's first five-star hotel. The red carpet has well and truly been rolled out for Pixel, whose days will now consist of belly rubs, lazy mornings in the sun, gentle strolls through the gardens and, of course, plenty of treats.

Born on 23 May 2018, Pixel is a highly capable AFP Detection Dog known for her calm temperament, strong work ethic, and reliability in high pressure environments. She graduated from National Canine Operations in 2020 and commenced her operational career with deployments to Darwin and the Gold Coast, where she quickly demonstrated exceptional adaptability and operational readiness.

Hyatt Hotel Canberra General Manager, Shane Jolly believes these character traits will continue to come in handy as Pixel commences her new role as Hyatt Hotel Canberra's ambassadog, where her job description includes welcoming guests to the hotel and keeping an eye on operations.

“We are thrilled to have Pixel join our team and already it's hard to imagine the lobby without her playful and affectionate energy.  We believe her presence perfectly aligns with our philosophy of creating a welcoming and memorable experience for our guests,” he says.

AFP Superintendent Dean Elliott says Pixel is deserving of a comfortable retirement after years of commitment and service.

“Pixel has dedicated her life to protecting the Australian community, so it is only fair she can put up her paws and enjoy the high-life in retirement,” Superintendent Elliot says.

“It's bittersweet to say goodbye to Pixel because we have known her for so long, but it's nice knowing the care, treatment and attention she'll receive now she has hung up the lead.”

Guests may spot Pixel enjoying her favourite sunny corners of the hotel, greeting visitors in the lobby, or simply living her best retired life in surroundings befitting a very good girl.
