Fresh off being ranked #1 Sports City in Canada and #22 globally in the Burson Global Ranking of Sports Cities, Edmonton is preparing to host a series of major international sporting events that will bring athletes and fans from around the world to the city. The recognition reflects Edmonton's strong track record of hosting global competitions and delivering memorable fan experiences, with several high-profile events on the horizon.

 

On April 7, Edmonton will host the PWHL Takeover Tour at Rogers Place, bringing professional women's hockey to the city as part of the league's growing North American showcase and giving fans the opportunity to experience the rising momentum behind women's professional sport.

 

On June 1, Canada's Men's National Team will take the pitch at Commonwealth Stadium for a FIFA international friendly — the team's final match before the FIFA World Cup. For soccer fans across Canada and beyond, the match offers a safe, affordable, and accessible way to experience the energy of international soccer while supporting Team Canada in a world-class stadium environment ahead of the global tournament.

 

Looking ahead, Edmonton will also co-host the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championships, welcoming the world's top under-20 hockey players from December 26, 2026 to January 5, 2027.
