Cheshire Day is marked annually on 30 March and is a county-wide celebration of what makes Cheshire great. The date commemorates the day in 1300 when King Edward I granted the county its Charter of Liberties. The county has much to shout about, from its Roman origins to shaping the Industrial Revolution, and even playing a role in the space race. The theme for 2026 is 'Made in Cheshire' and festivities will revolve around everything from the county's bounty and passionate artisans to its key industries of cheese, salt and silk, as well as the characters that have shaped its identity.
In the week leading up to Cheshire Day (23-30 March), there will be plenty for locals and visitors to enjoy. Head to Restaurant 209 in Farndon where husband and wife team Felix Shore and Anna Roseblade-Shore will be serving up a special Cheshire Tart — a traditional local dessert that offers a true taste of the county. Forest Distillery will also be taking part, offering a bespoke Cheshire Day cocktail – The Macc Forest Fizz, at their Cat & Fiddle bar above Macclesfield, featuring dry vermouth, freshly squeezed lime juice and handmade pine-infused syrup using Cheshire pines, of course. For a very special Cheshire-inspired menu, dine at The Pheasant Inn in Higher Burwardsley, and for a treat, visit the Ice Cream Drive In, located right next door to The Ice Cream Farm, to enjoy a 20% discount off orders from 14th March to 5th April 2026. These Cheshire businesses, alongside many more, will feature on an interactive map highlighting where to go for a taste of Cheshire this Cheshire Day.
On Cheshire Day itself, Merseyrail are partnering with Visit Chester to offer FREE rail travel to Chester.
